Bird In Hand Winery
Bird in Hand is a winery located near the town of Woodside in the Adelaide Hills wine region of South Australia. History The Nugent family, founders of Bird in Hand, have a long association with Adelaide through the health-care work of Dr Michael Nugent OAM, and his wife Joy Nugent, founder of Nurse Link. Bird in Hand's flagship wines, M.A.C Shiraz and Joy Sparkling Pinot Noir, are named for them. Son Andrew studied winemaking and viticulture at Roseworthy College, and worked in McLaren Vale before buying the Woodside property with his family in 1997. The winery was established in 1997 by viticulturist Andrew Nugent, with 40 hectares of vines planted on fertile land that was previously a dairy farm. Bird-in-Hand Mine
The Bird-in-Hand mine was an underground gold mine near Woodside in the Adelaide Hills east of Adelaide in South Australia. It was the largest of 17 gold mines in the area, and operated between 1881 and 1889. It produced of gold at an average grade of in the 1880s. Brukunga is a small town in the Adelaide Hills, located approximately east of Adelaide and north of the town of Nairne. The 16th Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery is the Australian Army's only ground-based air defence (GBAD) unit. It also provides sense, warn and locate, ground liaison, and joint terminal attack control capabilities. Woodside Barracks
Woodside Barracks is an Australian Army base located in Woodside in South Australia. History The base was established in 1927, and known as ''Woodside Camp''. It consisted of 162 hectares and was located east of Adelaide, South Australia. The camp was used for the training of light horse and infantry units of the Citizens Military Force (CMF). With the outbreak of the Second World War, barracks buildings were constructed to accommodate up to four infantry battalions. The 2/10th, 2/43rd and 2/48th battalions of the Second Australian Imperial Force were formed at the camp. The base also provided training facilities for several CMF units and provided temporary accommodation for elements of the United States Army's 32nd Infantry Division when it first arrived in Australia in May 1942. Inverbrackie is a place within the locality of Woodside in the Australian state of South Australia located about from the 'town centre' in Woodside. It includes the Woodside Barracks ( 16th Air Land Regiment), South Australia, although there are also some other residents and businesses in Inverbrackie. It is on the Nairne to Woodside road.
