Women's Eurobasket
EuroBasket Women is a biennial international women's basketball competition held between the nations of FIBA Europe for women's national teams. EuroBasket Women is also used as a qualifying tournament for the FIBA Women's World Cup and also the Olympic Games. History The first tournament was held in 1938 in Fascist Italy, with participation of only five national teams. Despite losing to Lithuania (21–23), the host team won all other matches and captured inaugural title thanks to better head-to-head point difference among Top 3 teams. Lithuania and Poland took silver and bronze medals respectively. The Second World War (1939–1945), which began the following year, interrupted the organization of women's basketball tournaments for a long time. It spread across the United States, in large part via women's college competitions, and has since spread globally. United States Women's National Basketball Team
The USA Basketball Women's National Team, commonly known as the United States women's national basketball team, is governed by USA Basketball and competes in FIBA Americas. The team is by far the most successful in international women's basketball, having won nine out of the eleven Olympic tournaments it had entered. It has also won nine of the last twelve World Cups (including the last four), and eleven titles overall. The team is currently ranked first in the FIBA World Rankings. In 2016, it was named the USA Basketball Team of the Year for a record sixth time (having been previously honored in 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012). Vanya Voynova ( bg, Ваня Войнова); December 27, 1934 – March 9, 1993) was a Bulgarian basketball player. She has played for Slavia Sofia (sports club), Slavia Sofia from 1950 to 1968, winning the EuroLeague Women, European Champions' Cup in 1959 and 1963 and Bulgarian league 12 times from 1953 to 1965. The Bulgaria women's national basketball team ( bg, България отбор жени национален по баскетбол) represents Bulgaria in international women's basketball, and is controlled by the Bulgarian Basketball Federation. Their achievements range from winning the 1958 EuroBasket Women's Championship, and the Balkan Championship in 1960.
