Windsor High School (Imperial, Missouri)
Windsor High School is a public high school in Imperial, Missouri, and is part of the Windsor C-1 School District. History Windsor High School was named after a sunken Civil War gunboat that was docked in the Mississippi River in Kimmswick, Missouri. This boat was never recorded in military or naval records and could have been used as a decoy to ward off Confederate raiding parties. This ship was sunk in the late 19th century during an ice storm. The ice crushed the boat from both sides letting out a thunderous crack that woke a man living in Kimmswick who recorded the event in the local newspaper much later in his life. The boat only had the name the locals gave it, "Windsor." According to the early history of Windsor, the school publication was named the Captain's Log, referring to the old gunboat; however, this name has since been changed to "The Vision." Imperial is a census-designated place (CDP) in Jefferson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 4,407 at the 2020 census, down from 4,709 in 2010. Originally known as West Kimmswick, Imperial is located south of downtown St. Louis. St. John's Church is a historic parish church located within Imperial. Geography Imperial is located in northeastern Jefferson County at . According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , of which are land and , or 13.01%, are water. Imperial is bordered to the north by Arnold, to the south by Barnhart, and to the east by the Mississippi River, which forms the Illinois state line. The CDP surrounds the city of Kimmswick. Nikki Ziegelmeyer
Nicole "Nikki" Ziegelmeyer (born September 24, 1975) is an American short track speed skater who competed in the 1992 Winter Olympics and 1994 Winter Olympics. She was born in Imperial, Missouri and she graduated from Windsor Senior High in 1993 ,becoming a Hall of Fame inductee in 2006. She was a member of the American relay team at the 1992 Olympics in Albertville, France, which won the silver medal in the 3000 metre relay competition. Two years later she won the bronze medal with the American team in the 3000 metre relay event. Ziegelmeyer planned to compete for the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan but suffered a severe break to her back when she fell to the ice and skidded into the boards at 35 mph during a training session in Lake Placid, New York in 1997.
