Windlust, Achthuizen
Windlust ("Wind love"), is a flour windmill in Achthuizen, Oostflakkee, South Holland, Netherlands. History The mill was built by Dirk David van Dijk in 1852. From 1933 to 1991 the mill was owned by Van Reijen & Zn, a grain, feed and fertilizer merchant. The mill was shut down and fell into disrepair. It was dismantled around 1970. Starting about 1981 an extensive renovation began. Many problems were encountered, so the project took much longer than expected. The mill was purchased by the Goeree-Overflakkee Mill Foundation in 1991, and is now back in working order. It has two pairs of millstones, and is operated by volunteers. Achthuizen
Achthuizen is a village in the Netherlands, Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee, and lies about 17 km south of Spijkenisse. The village was first mentioned around 1750 as "De Agthuisen", and means "eight houses". Achthuizen has two diagonally placed centres and looks like a number 8 from the air. Most of the settlement dates from after 1930. Achthuizen was a Roman Catholic enclave on the Protestant island of Goeree. The Catholic Assumption of Mary Church is a neoclassical architecture, neoclassic church from 1846. The village has a working windmill, Windlust, Achthuizen, Windlust, which is operated on a volunteer basis. Oostflakkee
Oostflakkee () is a former municipality on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The former municipality covered an area of about 107 km² (of which about 33 km² was covered by water), and had a population of about 10,000 in 2007. On January 1, 2013, Oostflakkee merged with Goedereede, Dirksland, and Middelharnis into the new municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee. The former municipality of Oostflakkee was formed by the amalgamation of the former municipalities of Den Bommel, Ooltgensplaat, and Oude Tonge in 1966. It consisted of the communities of Achthuizen, Langstraat, Den Bommel (with Zuidzijde), Ooltgensplaat, Oude-Tonge, and Zuidzijde.
