Calhoun County, Florida
Calhoun County is a rural county located in the northern panhandle of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population was 13,648, making it the fifth-least populous county in Florida. Its county seat is Blountstown. History Calhoun County was created in 1838. It was named for John C. Calhoun, member of the United States Senate from South Carolina and the seventh U.S. vice president, serving under John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson. The county was originally located between St. Joseph Bay and the Apalachicola River, with the county seat at St. Joseph (which was abandoned by 1844 due to a yellow fever epidemic and hurricanes). In the late 1850s, there was a violent feud between the local Durden family and another anti-Durden group. This feud escalated and there was a breakdown of the law, with roaming gangs and a "pitched battle" at the courthouse square in Blountstown. Chason is a small unincorporated community in northwest Calhoun County, Florida, United States. Chason is 65 miles west of Tallahassee, Florida, 53 miles south of Dothan, Alabama, and 44 miles northeast of Panama City, Florida. It is located along State Road 73 at the intersection of County Road 274 south of Willis. Chason is located near the Chipola River and contains many ponds: Page Pond, White Pond, Burke Pond, and Todd Pond are just a few. The Florida Trail passes through Chason as it follows the course of CR 274 to the Altha trailhead, where it continues as a footpath through the Upper Chipola River Water Management Area. The surrounding countryside is notable as a large tract of Florida Scrub. Look And Tremble
Look and Tremble, sometimes known as Look and Tremble Shoals, or Look and Tremble Falls, is a shoal or rapids and swimming hole on the Chipola River in the United States state of Florida. It lies south of the County Road 274 crossing of the Chipola (Willis Bridge) west of Altha in Calhoun County. The county's Look and Tremble Park is adjacent to the shoals. The Chipola River from the Florida Caverns State Park southward is a canoe trail. Look and Tremble is considered a class-one rapids (or "a mild class II on its best day".Fred Brown and Sherri M. L.
