William Workman (baritone)
William Workman (February 4, 1940 – September 13, 2019) was an American baritone who had an active career in operas and concerts from the 1960s into the 2000s. Particularly active with the Hamburg State Opera (HSO) and Opera Frankfurt, he notably created the roles of Tony in the world premiere of Gian Carlo Menotti's '' Help, Help, the Globolinks!'' (1968) and Prince Henri of Condé in the world premiere of Krzysztof Penderecki's '' The Devils of Loudun'' (1969). His final appearance with the HSO was as Osmin in Mozart's ''Die Entführung aus dem Serail'' in 2004. Life and career Born in Valdosta, Georgia, Workman studied voice at Davidson College with Donald Plott before pursuing studies in opera with Martial Singher at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. William Workman (Canadian Politician)
William Workman (May 1807 – 23 February 1878), of Mount Prospect House, Montreal, was an Irish-born Canadian entrepreneur, businessman and philanthropist. He was a partner in Canada's largest wholesale hardware house of John Frothingham, Frothingham & Workman, and President of Montreal's City Bank. He was Mayor of Montreal and invested in railways, shipping, real estate and charity. His home was in Montreal's Golden Square Mile and he is buried at Mount Royal Cemetery. Willy Workman (; born March 14, 1990) is an American-Israeli professional basketball player for Hapoel Haifa of the Israeli Premier League. He played college basketball at Amherst. Workman holds dual-American and Israeli citizenship. Early life Workman is Jewish and was born to a Jewish mother in Northampton, Massachusetts. He attended Northampton High School before completing a postgraduate year at nearby Deerfield Academy, where he resumed playing basketball after enduring injuries earlier in his high school career. William Douglas Workman III (July 3, 1940 – May 12, 2019) was an American businessman and politician who served as the mayor of Greenville, South Carolina from 1983 to 1995. Greenville is the seat of Greenville County, the state's most populous county, at the center of the Upstate South Carolina region. Originally from the southern part of the state, Workman began work in journalism before entering politics. He worked in Governor James B. Edwards' administration in the latter 1970s, after which he was honored with the Order of the Palmetto. Workman was a member of the Greenville city council for two years before his election as mayor.
