William Starr Miller House
The William Starr Miller House is a mansion at 1048 Fifth Avenue, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City. Prior to Miller’s development of the property, the site was home to David Mayer (died in 1914), a founder of the David Mayer Brewing Company and a friend of Oscar S. Straus. History It was originally constructed for the industrialist William Starr Miller. Miller hired the renowned New York-based, Beaux-Arts architectural firm Carrere and Hastings to design a six-story Louis XIII style townhouse for himself and his family, to be located in Manhattan at 1048 Fifth Avenue (on the southeast corner at East 86th Street). The work was completed in 1914. Miller's daughter Edith Starr Miller married the widowed Lord Queenborough in July 1921, in the music room. Miller died at the house in 1935 and his widow continued to live there until her death in 1944. William Davis Miller House
The William Davis Miller House also known as the Wakefield Mansion is a historic estate in the Wakefield village of South Kingstown, Rhode Island. The estate consists of of land, on which stand a substantial house, garage and water tank, all built in the mid-1930s. The property was designed by Providence architect Albert Harkness and built for William Davis Miller and Mary (Chew) Miller. Miller was a social and civic force in Providence, serving as a trustee of Brown University, the Providence Public Libraries, and as president of the Rhode Island Historical Society, and was a longtime friend of Harkness. The Colonial Revival estate Harkness designed for the Millers typifies the type of country estates that were built in Rhode Island in the period. Miller Place is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, New York, United States, on the North Shore of Long Island. Miller Place has been inhabited since the 17th century and is named for the Miller family that included many of its initial settlers. For most of its history, the community functioned as an agriculture-based society. Despite preserving much of its historic identity, changes in the 20th century have transitioned the hamlet into a desirable and densely populated suburban area. The population was 11,723 at the 2020 census. The hamlet borders the areas of Sound Beach, Mount Sinai, Rocky Point, Middle Island and Coram.
