William H. Keith Jr.
William H. Keith (born August 8, 1950) is an American author mainly contributing to military science fiction and military fiction and related game design, who writes also under several pen names, such as Ian Douglas, Robert Cain and H. Jay Riker. His newer original works are written under the name of Ian Douglas. Early life William H. Keith grew up with his brother J. Andrew Keith. William H. Keith served in the United States Navy as a hospital corpsman from 1969 to 1972 during the Vietnam War era. Career William H. Keith Jr. and his brother J. Andrew Keith noticed ads in '' Journal of the Travellers Aid Society'' which announced that Game Designers' Workshop (GDW) was looking for authors; Loren Wiseman hired them to start freelancing for GDW in 1978 or 1979, and the three worked together on a lot of the early material for the '' Traveller'' universe. Gamelords was an American game company that produced tabletop role-playing games and game supplements. History Kerry Lloyd founded the company, with three friends - Richard Meyer, Janet Trautvetter, and Michael Watkins in 1980. Gamelords was centered in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Gamelords published the role-playing game '' Thieves' Guild'' in 1980. Looking to produce more group-oriented products for ''The Fantasy Trip'', Howard M. Thompson of Metagaming Concepts signed an agreement in 1982 with Gamelords to create a campaign world for the game, but he terminated the agreement after only two campaign books were published. Decision At Thunder Rift
''Decision at Thunder Rift'' is a novel by William H. Keith Jr. published in 1986. it is the first book of the ''Saga of the Gray Death Legion'', and the first novel ever to be published for BattleTech. It tells the story of the young Grayson Death Carlyle and the events that led to the founding of his famous mercenary unit. Plot summary In 3024 AD, the planet Trellwan, situated near the Lyran Commonwealth's periphery border, is garrisoned by Carlyle's Commandos under Captain Durant Carlyle whose 20-year-old son Grayson is being trained to become his successor. Viscount Olin Vogel, a personal emissary of Archon Katrina Steiner, has prepared a pact with the nearby Oberon Confederation by which they will garrison the world, freeing up Carlyle's Commandos for duty elsewhere. Task Force Games
Task Force Games was a game company started in 1979 by Allen Eldridge and Stephen V. Cole. TFG published many games, most notably including both '' Star Fleet Battles'' (currently published by the original designers, Amarillo Design Bureau) and the '' Starfire'' series of games (which is now published by Starfire Design Studio), which were later novelized by David Weber into such books as '' In Death Ground'', '' The Shiva Option'' and ''Insurrection''. Eldridge sold the company to New World Computing in 1988, which became a division of The 3DO Company in 1996 and went out of business in 2003. During the period that TFG was owned by New World Computing, the two companies attempted the first-ever simultaneous release of a board game and computer game.
