William Gore-Langton (1760–1847)
Colonel William Gore-Langton (December 1760 – 14 March 1847), known as William Gore until 1783, was a British politician. He sat in the British House of Commons, House of Commons for 45 years. Background Born William Gore, he was the son of Edward Gore and Barbara, daughter of Sir George Browne, 3rd Baronet. This branch of the Gore family descends from Sir John Gore, Lord Mayor of London in 1624, younger son of Gerard Gore, whose elder son Sir Paul Gore, 1st Baronet, of Magharabeg was the ancestor of the Earl of Arran (Ireland), Earls of Arran, the Baron Annaly, Barons Annaly and the Baron Harlech, Barons Harlech. Montague Gore was his nephew. Bristol (UK Parliament Constituency)
Bristol was a two-member constituency, used to elect members to the British House of Commons, House of Commons in the Parliaments of England (to 1707), Great Britain (1707–1800), and the United Kingdom (from 1801). The constituency existed until Bristol was divided into single member constituencies in 1885. Sir William Miles, 1st Baronet (13 May 1797 – 17 June 1878), was an English politician, agriculturalist and landowner. He was educated at Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford, and was created a baronet on 19 April 1859, of Leigh Court, Somerset. Family Miles was the son of Philip John Miles (1773–1845) by his first marriage to Maria Whetham (1776–1811). His father was a landowner, shipowner, banker and reportedly the first millionaire in Bristol. Edward Ayshford Sanford
Edward Ayshford Sanford (23 May 1794 – 1 December 1871) was a British Member of Parliament. He was the only son of William Ayshford Sanford of Nynehead and Lynton, Devon and educated at Eton College (1808–13) and Brasenose College, Oxford. He lived at Nynehead Court, Wellington, Somerset. Sanford was elected Member of Parliament for Somerset in 1830, sitting until 1832, and then represented Somerset West from 1832 to 1841. He was a Justice of the Peace (JP) and Deputy Lieutenant for Somerset, serving as High Sheriff of Somerset for 1848–49. In 1832 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. He died in 1871, leaving his estates to his eldest son, William Ayshford Sanford. William Holmes (1779–1851)
William Holmes (2 April 1779 – 26 January 1851) was an Irish Tory and Conservative politician in the United Kingdom in the early nineteenth century. He was an MP for 28 years. Life He was born in County Sligo, the son of Thomas Holmes of Farmhill, a brewer, and his wife Anne Phibbs, daughter of Harlow Phibbs. He matriculated in 1795 at Trinity College, Dublin, but did not take a degree. Then an army officer, he was secretary to Sir Thomas Hislop, 1st Baronet with rank of captain in the West Indies, from 1803 to 1807. Retiring from the army in 1807, he married and entered Parliament in 1808, as Member for Grampound. Holmes served as party manager, and Chief Whip in the House of Commons from about 1818 until his seat (for the rotten borough of Haslemere) was abolished by the Reform Act 1832. Sir Alexander Cray Grant, 8th Baronet (13 November 1782 – 29 November 1854) was a British politician and plantation owner in the West Indies. Life He was born in 1782 in West Alvington, Devon, the eldest son of Sir Alexander Grant, 7th Baronet and Sarah Cray. He graduated from St John's College, Cambridge in 1806 with a Master of Arts (MA). He entered politics in Jamaica, where he owned two plantations, as a member of the Jamaican colonial assembly from 1810 to 1811. In 1812, he returned to England, where he successfully stood as a Tory Member of Parliament for Tregony in the House of Commons. In 1818, he was elected as MP for Lostwithiel, and was re-elected there in June 1826, although he was also elected to Aldborough which he chose to represent instead. From 1826 to 1831, Grant was the Chairman of Ways and Means in the House of Commons. William Dickinson (1771–1837) was an English politician, in parliament from 1796 to 1831. Life From a Bristol merchant family who were slave owners in Jamaica, he was the eldest son of William Dickinson (1745–1806), William Dickinson, also a Member of Parliament, and his wife Philippa Fuller, daughter of Stephen Fuller who was a London West India merchant and Jamaica agent. He was educated at Westminster School and Christ Church, Oxford where he matriculated in 1789, graduating with a B.A. in 1793 and an M.A. in 1795. He came into the family estate at Kingweston on his father's death. Dickinson entered the House of Commons in 1796 for Ilchester (UK Parliament constituency), Ilchester, as a supporter of William Pitt the Younger.
