Wilhelm Wilhelmsen (1872–1955)
Wilhelm Wilhelmsen (11 March 1872 – 11 May 1955) was a Norwegian ship owner and yacht racer. He was born in Tønsberg, and was the son of ship owner Wilhelm Wilhelmsen. He managed the company Wilh. Wilhelmsen, Norway's largest shipping company, from 1923 until his death in 1955. His son Tom Wilhelmsen (1911–1978) took over. He represented the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club, and competed at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, where his boat placed fourth in the 8-meter class. The 1928 Summer Olympics (), officially the Games of the IX Olympiad (), was an international multi-sport event that was celebrated from 28 July to 12 August 1928 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The city of Amsterdam had previously bid for the 1920 and 1924 Olympic Games. Still, it was obliged to give way to war-torn Antwerp in Belgium for the 1920 Summer Olympics, 1920 Games and Pierre de Coubertin's Paris for the 1924 Summer Olympics, 1924 Games. Royal Norwegian Yacht Club
The Royal Norwegian Yacht Club (, KNS) is a yacht club in Oslo, Norway. The club was founded in 1883 as country-wide organisation with affiliated local yacht clubs. In 1884, it was granted the right for members to fly the naval Ensign (flag), Ensign of Flag of Norway, Norway with the Royal cypher on a centrally placed white field. In 1970, it was reorganized as local club for the Oslo area, under a new nationwide federation of yacht clubs (Norges Seilforbund). To date, the club has some 4,000 members. Clubhouse The club premises are at Bygdøy in Frognerkilen, where the clubhouse is named "Dronningen" ('The Queen').
