Wiley City is an Unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Yakima County, Washington, Yakima County, Washington (U.S. state), Washington, United States, located near the southwest city limits of Yakima, Washington, Yakima. History In 1871, Hugh Wiley settled in the area now known as Wiley City. The town was founded in 1910 on part of the property of James J. Wiley, son of Hugh Wiley. The Yakima Valley Transportation Company (YVT) built a railroad line connecting the town with Yakima in 1910. YVT provided both electric interurban service and Rail freight transport, freight service to Wiley City, but passenger service was discontinued in 1935. Freight service continued until 1985, when the YVT itself was abandoned, and the tracks were removed within a few years of the closure. The Yakima Valley Transportation Company (YVT Co.) was an interurban electric railroad headquartered in Yakima, Washington. Area code 509 is the telephone area code for the eastern two-thirds of the state of Washington. The western boundary of 509 roughly follows the Cascades. The 509 area code includes Spokane, the Tri-Cities ( Richland, Pasco, and Kennewick), Ellensburg, Yakima, Walla Walla, and Wenatchee. The 509 code was created in a split from 206, originally the area code for all of Washington, in a flash-cut on January 1, 1957. This part of Washington is not as densely populated as the west, and the great majority of the state's landlines and cell phones are located west of the Cascades.
