Wiewiórki, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship
Wiewiórki is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Górowo Iławeckie, within Bartoszyce County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland, close to the border with the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia. It lies approximately east of Górowo Iławeckie, west of Bartoszyce, and north of the regional capital Olsztyn. History Eichhorn has been founded by German settlers throughout the Ostsiedlung in the Monastic state of the Teutonic Knights and was first mentioned in 1414, when the settlement was damaged by Polish troops in the Polish-Teutonic Hunger War. In 1419 the local Inn was mentioned as desolate, in 1437 the existing 46 "Hufen", a square measure of the Teutonic Knights, were cultivated, while the Inn was still desolate. Hunger War
The Hunger War (, ) or Famine War was a brief conflict between the allied Kingdom of Poland, and Grand Duchy of Lithuania, against the Teutonic Knights in summer 1414 in an attempt to resolve territorial disputes. The war earned its name from destructive scorched earth tactics followed by both sides. While the conflict ended without any major political results, famine and plague swept through Prussia. According to Johann von Posilge, 86 friars of the Teutonic Order died from plague following the war. In comparison, approximately 200 friars perished in the Battle of Grunwald of 1410, one of the biggest battles in medieval Europe. The State of the Teutonic Order () was a theocratic state located along the southeastern shore of the Baltic Sea in northern Europe. It was formed by the knights of the Teutonic Order during the early 13th century Northern Crusades in the region of Prussia. Górowo Iławeckie () or simply Górowo, is a town in northern Poland, located in the Bartoszyce County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, with 4,068 inhabitants (2016).
