In the early 1870s part of this township was split off to help create Grant Township. The headwaters of the Arapahoe Creek is in the southwest of this township. Arapahoe Creek is a stream in Andrew and Nodaway counties of northwest Missouri. It is a tributary to the Nodaway River and is 12.6 miles long. Etymology Arapahoe Creek was named after the Arapaho Native Americans. Geography Arapahoe Creek is a left tributary of the Nodaway River and joins it 14.4 miles before its mouth in the Missouri River. It is the first major tributary of the Nodaway River in Andrew County. There are no communities in the Arapahoe Creek watershed, but there are two named lakes Dysart Lake and Smith Lake. White Cloud Creek is a stream in Nodaway and Andrew counties in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary of One Hundred and Two River and is 30.1 miles long. The stream has also been known as Whitecloud Creek, White Clouds Creek, or White Coal Creek. The stream headwaters arise in Nodaway County approximately 1.5 miles west of Pickering (at ) and flows south-southeast crossing under US Route 71 and Missouri Route 46 three miles west of Maryville. It then turns and flows to the south-southeast passing about 1.5 miles west of the community of Pumpkin Center. Arkoe is a village in south central Nodaway County, Missouri, United States. The population was 56 at the 2020 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of , all land. Arkoe lies in the very flat western plain of the One Hundred and Two River. It is six miles north of Barnard, six miles southeast of Maryville, and 7.5 miles west of Conception. Etymology The United States Board on Geographic Names in its Geographic Names Information System only lists two Arkoes in the United States (the other being in Pike County, Ohio). One of the earliest uses of the name was in the 18th-century fantasy book "The Life and Adventures of Peter Wilkins" by Robert Paltock which was published in 1751 which said an Arkoe is a "water surrounded with wood."
