Whipple is an unincorporated community in southern Salem Township, Washington County, Ohio, United States. Although it is unincorporated, it once had a post office, with the ZIP code 45788. It lies on State Route 821 south of the village of Lower Salem, at the junction of Whipple Run with Duck Creek. The community took its name from nearby Whipple Run Whipple Run is a stream located entirely within Washington County, Ohio. Ohio State Route 821
State Route 821 (SR 821) is a north–south state highway in the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. A state-maintained section of the old US 21, its southern terminus is at SR 60 approximately north of Marietta, and its northern terminus is at I-77 in Byesville, along with the eastern terminus of SR 209. The route is entirely undivided surface road, and is much less direct than the newer I-77 which supplanted it as a through route. As the interstate was being built, the designation of US 21 was moved to the freeway before Ohio wholly decommissioned the now-superfluous U.S. route. SR 821 was designated about two years after US 21 was moved onto I-77 in southeastern Ohio. Lower Salem is a village in Washington County, Ohio, United States. The population was 75 at the 2020 census. History Lower Salem had its start when a corduroy road (called the Old Plank Road) was built through it to Marietta. It has a post office. The town site was not laid out until 1850, and was settled predominantly by German immigrants. Lower Salem was once home to a hotel, a doctor's office, an armory, Wagner's General Store, and a gas station and auto parts shop. Duck Creek is a tributary of the Ohio River, approximately 30 mi (50 km) long, in southeastern Ohio in the United States. Via the Ohio River, it is part of the Mississippi River watershed. It drains an area of the Unglaciated Allegheny Plateau, between the watersheds of the Muskingum and Little Muskingum Rivers.
