The True Whig Party was an Politics of Australia, Australian List of frivolous political parties, joke party, formed by satirist Alan Fitzgerald (satirist), Alan Fitzgerald. History In 1966, frustrated with the lack of power that the Australian Capital Territory Advisory Council had, Alan Fitzgerald announced he was forming the True Whig Party. He called on voters to write his or his party's names on ballot papers for the Division of Australian Capital Territory at the 1966 Australian federal election, 1966 federal election. Hearing that many voters had done so, Fitzgerald announced on 14 August 1967 that he would stand for the Advisory Council at the 1967 Australian Capital Territory election, upcoming election in September. The True Whig Party (TWP), also known as the Liberian Whig Party (LWP), is the oldest political party in Liberia and Africa as a whole. Founded in 1869 by primarily darker-skinned Americo-Liberians in rural areas, its historic rival was the Republican Party. Harry Turtledove
Harry Norman Turtledove (born June 14, 1949) is an American author who is best known for his work in the genres of alternate history, historical fiction, fantasy, science fiction, and mystery fiction. He is a student of history and completed his PhD in Byzantine Empire, Byzantine history. His dissertation was on the period 565–582. He lives in Southern California. In addition to his birth name, Turtledove writes under a number of pen names: Eric Iverson, H. N. Turteltaub, Dan Chernenko, and Mark Gordian. He began publishing novels in the realm of fantasy starting in 1979 and continues to write in the 2020s. Early life Turtledove was born in Los Angeles, California, on June 14, 1949, and grew up in Gardena, California. The White House Iraq Group (aka, White House Information Group or WHIG) was a working group of the White House set up in August 2002 and tasked with disseminating information supporting the positions of the George W. Bush administration relating to a possible invasion of Iraq, which would subsequently take place in March 2003. The Afghan Whigs
The Afghan Whigs are an American rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio. They were active from 1986 to 2001 and have since reformed as a band. The group – with core members Greg Dulli (vocals, rhythm guitar), Rick McCollum (lead guitar), and John Curley (bass) – rose up around the grunge movement, evolving from a garage band in the vein of the Replacements to incorporate more R&B and soul influences into their sound and image. After releasing their first album independently in 1988, the band signed to the Seattle-based label Sub Pop. They released their major-label debut and fourth album, '' Gentlemen'', in 1993.
