Wham! (film)
''Wham!'' is a 2023 documentary film about the English pop duo Wham! consisting of George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley. The film marks the 40th anniversary of their 1983 debut album ''Fantastic''. Directed by Chris Smith it relies primarily on rare archive footage and audio interviews by the duo, including television appearances, concert footage, private home video, behind-the-scenes outtakes, and family comments all linked together using scrapbooks created by Ridgeley's mother. The film was co-produced by Ventureland / Passion Pictures, Nemperor Production, and Library Films with Altitude Film and Netflix serving as distributors. ''Wham!'' had its world premiere at the Sheffield DocFest on 17–18 June 2023 and given a limited theatrical release in the United Kingdom on 27 June. Chris Smith (filmmaker)
Chris Smith (born 1970) is an American filmmaker. He directed '' American Movie'', which was awarded the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival. Career Smith completed his first film, '' American Job'', while attending the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee's Graduate Film Program. He was nominated for a " Someone to Watch Award" from the Independent Spirit Awards. Smith met Mark Borchardt, the subject of ''American Movie'', while editing ''American Job'', and began filming a documentary about the making of Borchardt's psychological thriller '' Coven''. Both films played at the Sundance Film Festival, and ''American Movie'' was bought by Sony Pictures for $1 million. A camcorder is a self-contained portable electronic device with video camera, video and recording as its primary function. ''Top of the Pops'' (''TOTP'') is a British music chart television programme, made by the BBC and originally broadcast weekly between 1January 1964 and 30 July 2006. The programme was the world's longest-running weekly music show. For most of its history, it was broadcast on Thursday evenings on BBC One. Each show consisted of performances of some of the week's best-selling popular music records, usually excluding any tracks moving down the chart, including a rundown of that week's singles chart. Innervision Records
Innervision Records was an independent record label distributed by CBS Records. The label was established around 1981 by Mark Dean and Shamsi Ahmed. Perhaps the most recognizable artist associated with Innervision was Wham!, who scored four top-ten hits while signed to the label. Additional Innervision artists included Jimmy The Hoover, who had a top 20 hit with "Tantalise"; and the groups Animal Nightlife, The Promise, Girl Talk and Space Monkey. Innervision released its final single in 1985, by which time the label's records were being distributed by EMI. Legal disputes In 1983, Andrew Ridgeley of Wham! became conscious of legal problems with their initial contract at Innervision. Released on the 1984 Wham! album ''Make It Big'', the single release was credited either to ''Wham! featuring George Michael'' (in North America and several other countries) or solely to ''George Michael'' (in the United Kingdom and some European countries) as it became apparent, that at some point in the near future, Michael would be embarking on a solo career. The song features a prominent saxophone riff, and has been covered by a number of artists since its first release. It was released as a single and became a huge commercial success around the world. "Wham Rap! (Enjoy What You Do)" is the debut single by English pop duo Wham! on Innervision Records, released in June 1982. It was written by Wham! members George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley. History Wham Rap! was the first song written by Michael and Ridgeley following the breakup of their previous band, The Executive, but before they had officially formed (or named) Wham! The genesis of the song began in 1981 and was a result of Ridgeley making up his own words ("Wham! ''Bam!'' I am the man!") while dancing to "Rapper's Delight" with Michael and Shirley in Bogart's nightclub in South Harrow. As they continued to work on the song an ultimatum to Michael from his father inspired the line "Get yourself a job or get out of this house". Bushey Meads School
Bushey Meads School (also known as "BMS") is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form with academy status, located in Bushey, Hertfordshire, England. The school forms part of the Bushey St James Trust, in partnership with Little Reddings Primary School and Hartsbourne Primary School. History The school was founded in 1957 as Bushey Secondary Modern School with a building designed for 636 pupils. In 1998 Dr Dena Coleman became the head teacher at Bushey Meads School. The school had a budget of about £3m and it had over 1,000 secondary and sixth form pupils. It had become grant-maintained to balance its budgets but money was tight. The school suffered from small classrooms. Coleman was head of the school until 2005.
