Wevelgem () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Gullegem, Moorsele and Wevelgem proper. On January 1, 2006, Wevelgem had a total population of 31,020. The total area is 38.76 km2 which gives a population density of 800 inhabitants per km2. Wevelgem is accessible by road (E403 – A19 – R8), by boat ( De Leie), by air ( Kortrijk-Wevelgem International Airport) or by train at Wevelgem railway station. Wevelgem is known for the annual Gent–Wevelgem bicycle road race which finishes in the town. History The earliest known mention dates from 1197. Wevelgem was home to the Cistercian Guldenberg Abbey in the 13th–14th centuries, which owned grain mills in various locations. Menen (; ; or ) is a city and municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the city of Menen proper and the towns of Lauwe and Rekkem. The city is situated on the French/Belgian border. On January 1, 2006, Menen had a total population of 32,413. The total area is 33.07 km2 which gives a population density of 980 inhabitants per km2. Steven Vanackere (; born 4 February 1964) is a Belgian politician from Flanders and member of the Christian Democratic and Flemish party (CD&V). He held the portfolios of Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Institutional Reform in the Leterme II government. Dag Otto Lauritzen (born 13 September 1956) is a Norwegian television personality and retired professional cyclist. At the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles he won a bronze medal in the individual road race. He was the first Norwegian to win a stage of the Tour de France, which he did on Bastille Day in 1987 at Luz Ardiden. Over his career he rode the Tour de France eight times. Lauritzen began cycling to recuperate from a military parachuting injury, and switched careers from police officer to cyclist. Steak Number Eight
Stake (stylized in all caps), formerly known as Steak Number Eight, is a Belgian post-metal/sludge metal band based in Wevelgem. Their music is a combination of post-rock and sludge metal, and is influenced by bands like Pelican, Isis, Sunn O))) and Amenra. Career In 2007 they won a local contest named Westtalent. A few months later, in March 2008, the band won Humo's Rock Rally. With an average age of 15.5 they were the youngest band in the history of this contest. Shortly after this victory a home recorded album ''When the Candle Dies Out...'' was released. In March 2011 the band released their second album ''All is Chaos'' produced by Mario Goossens and mixed by Matt Bayles.
