Wetherby–Hampton–Snyder–Wilson–Erdman Log House, also known as Cockleburr, Prologue House, and Cabindale, is a historic home located in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. The original section was built about 1725, and is a -story, 2-bay dwelling. The first story is of slate and the upper stories of log construction. A -story stone wing was added between 1817 and 1835. Tredyffrin Township ( ) is a township located in eastern Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 29,332 at the 2010 census. Settled in the late 17th century, Tredyffrin is bounded by Delaware and Montgomery counties. It includes on its northern boundary a small part of Valley Forge National Historical Park, where George Washington encamped during the American War of Independence. Slate
Slate is a fine-grained, foliated, homogeneous, metamorphic rock derived from an original shale-type sedimentary rock composed of clay or volcanic ash through low-grade, regional metamorphism. It is the finest-grained foliated metamorphic rock. Foliation may not correspond to the original sedimentary layering, but instead is in planes perpendicular to the direction of metamorphic compression. The foliation in slate, called " slaty cleavage", is caused by strong compression in which fine-grained clay forms flakes to regrow in planes perpendicular to the compression. When expertly "cut" by striking parallel to the foliation with a specialized tool in the quarry, many slates display a property called fissility, forming smooth, flat sheets of stone which have long been used for roofing, floor tiles, and other purposes.
