West Virginia MetroNews is a radio network heard on many radio stations throughout the U.S. state, State of West Virginia. The network is owned by the West Virginia Radio Corporation. West Virginia MetroNews offers a mix of News radio, news and Talk radio, talk. It held the rights to live play-by-play coverage of West Virginia Mountaineers, West Virginia University Mountaineers sports games, which it marketed under the Doing business as, DBA name "Mountaineer Sports Network", but lost these rights following the end of the 2012/13 basketball season. The network also provides coverage of select high school football and basketball games that happen in West Virginia. WAJR (1440 kHz) is a news/ talk/sports formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Morgantown, West Virginia, serving North Central West Virginia. WAJR is owned and operated by WVRC Media. For decades, WAJR was the flagship station for West Virginia Mountaineers football and basketball. However, that role has since been taken on by WZST. Catlettsburg is a home rule-class city in and the county seat of Boyd County, Kentucky, United States. The city population was 1,780 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Huntington–Ashland metropolitan area. History Early history Catlettsburg's history begins in the decades directly following the American Revolution, as many frontiersmen passed through the area on their western trek along the Ohio River. Alexander Catlett, the first landowner of the area, came to the site in 1798. His son, Horatio Catlett, opened a post office on December 5, 1810, with himself being the postmaster. This was the first known use of the name Catlettsburg being used officially as it had been previously known as Mouth of Sandy. WCHS (580 kHz) is a news/talk/sports formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Charleston, West Virginia, serving Southern West Virginia and Southwestern West Virginia. WCHS is owned and operated by WVRC Media. WCHS is the Primary Entry Point Emergency Alert System station for West Virginia. History WCHS signed on September 15, 1927, as WOBU, operating at 1120 kilohertz with 50 watts of power; it moved to 580 kilohertz the following year. The station was founded by Walter Fredericks, owner of the Charleston Radio Supply Company, who launched WOBU to sell more radios; he would sell the station in 1930. History Ripley was originally owned and settled by William, John, and Lewis Rodgers. They received a grant of in 1768 where "Sycamore Creek joins Big Mill Creek" (the current site of Ripley). Weston is a city in and the county seat of Lewis County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 3,943 at the 2020 census. It is home to the Museum of American Glass in West Virginia and the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum.
