West Harrow
West Harrow is a suburban area in the London Borough of Harrow that forms the western part of Harrow, London, Harrow, historically in the county of Middlesex. The area was rural until the late 19th century when the Metropolitan Railway expanded into Harrow. In the early 20th century, the area was developed into predominantly residential estates. History At the start of the 20th century, fields and farmland comprised the area that is now present-day West Harrow. Situated on Bessborough Road at the western foot of Harrow on the Hill, Harrow Hill, three farms (Honeybun, Roxborough, and Roxeth) were later developed into what became known as the Bessborough Estate. The Roxeth farmhouse still stands and gained Grade II listed status in 1951. Harrow () is a large town in Greater London, England, and serves as the principal settlement of the London Borough of Harrow. Lying about north-west of Charing Cross and south of Watford, the entire town including its localities had a population of 149,246 at the United Kingdom Census 2011, 2011 census, whereas the wider borough (which also contains Pinner and Stanmore) had a population of 250,149. The original settlement was at Harrow on the Hill, atop the Harrow Hill. The modern town centre of Harrow developed at the foot of the hill, in an area historically called Greenhill, Harrow, Greenhill, following the opening of Harrow-on-the-Hill station on the Metropolitan Railway in 1880. Harrow-on-the-Hill is an interchange railway station in Harrow, served by suburban London Underground services on the Metropolitan line and commuter National Rail services on the London–Aylesbury line. West Harrow Tube Station
West Harrow is a London Underground station in Harrow, north-west London. It is on the Uxbridge branch of the Metropolitan line between Rayners Lane and Harrow-on-the-Hill stations, and is located in Travelcard Zone 5. It is the only station on the Uxbridge branch to be served exclusively by the Metropolitan. History The Metropolitan ( Harrow and Uxbridge Railway) line passed through here between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Ruislip, with services beginning on 4 July 1904. West Harrow station opened on 17 November 1913. The line here passes over the road where The Gardens becomes Vaughan Road. North Harrow is a suburban area of North West London, situated north-west of central Harrow, London, Harrow within the London Borough of Harrow. Its residential roads have expanded from North Harrow tube station, a station on the Metropolitan line of the London Underground which is one stop away from Harrow-on-the-Hill station in Harrow town centre. Gareth Richard Thomas (born 15 July 1967) is a British Labour politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Harrow West since 1997. Krupesh Jadavji Hirani (born 29 November 1985) is a British Labour and Co-operative politician who has been the London Assembly Member for Brent and Harrow since 2021. He previously represented Dudden Hill ward on Brent Council from 2010 to 2022. Brent and Harrow is a constituency represented in the London Assembly. It consists of the combined area of the London Borough of Brent and the London Borough of Harrow. After the 2010 general election, the London Borough of Brent had two Labour MPs and one Liberal Democrat MP, and the London Borough of Harrow had two Conservative MPs and one Labour MP. Both councils are currently (April 2012) Labour controlled. 2022 Harrow London Borough Council Election
The 2022 Harrow London Borough Council election took place on 5 May 2022. All 55 members of Harrow London Borough Council were elected. The elections took place alongside local elections in the other London boroughs and elections to local authorities across the United Kingdom. The 2022 election took place under new election boundaries, which reduced the number of councillors to 55. In the previous election in 2018, the Labour Party maintained its control of the council, winning 35 out of the 63 seats with the Conservative Party as the council opposition with the remaining 28 seats. However, in the 2022 elections, the Conservative Party won control from Labour with net gains of 8 seats to gain a total of 31 seats.
