West Dean, Gloucestershire
West Dean is a civil parish, situated in the Forest of Dean district of Gloucestershire, England. History The Forest of Dean was an extra-parochial area in the St Briavels Hundred of Gloucestershire. It was without the usual parish structure until the West Dean and East Dean townships were formed in 1844. For poor relief, West Dean was grouped into the Monmouth Poor Law Union and was included in the Monmouth rural sanitary district. Following the Local Government Act 1894, West Dean became a civil parish in the West Dean Rural District. In 1974 the rural district was abolished and West Dean became one of 41 civil parishes in the Forest of Dean district. Forest of Dean is a local government district in Gloucestershire, England, named after the Forest of Dean. Its council is based in Coleford. Other towns and villages in the district include Blakeney, Cinderford, Drybrook, English Bicknor, Huntley, Littledean, Longhope, Lydbrook, Lydney, Mitcheldean, Newnham and Newent. Bream, Gloucestershire
Bream (historically known as Breem) is a village in the Forest of Dean, west Gloucestershire, England. The population was around 3,170 in the 2011 census. Governance An electoral ward in the same name exists. Its area and total population are the same as quoted above. History Human activity at Bream dates back to the Iron Age, when iron ore was being mined in the local area. The first dwellings in Bream were recorded in 1452. In 1505, the St. James' church, Bream or St. James chapel as it was then known, was built. In 1712, the population of Bream was 300. In 1822, the church was reconstructed. The main employment in the village in the past was coal mining, farming, and forestry. Today with the mines closed, there is very little employment now in the village, although there are two garages and several shops. Parkend is a village, located at the foot of the Cannop Valley, in the Royal Forest of Dean, West Gloucestershire, England, and has a history dating back to the early 17th century. Pillowell
Pillowell is a small English village in Gloucestershire, on the south-eastern edge of the Forest of Dean. Once a mining village, much of it now lies in a conservation area. Description Pillowell's coordinates are 51.75° N 02.55° W. It rose to be a mining village, directly east of Whitecroft and directly west of Yorkley. Much of it lies in a conservation area.
