Wenzhou Medical University (WMU); ), designated as a key university in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, is an higher education, institution of higher learning under the leadership of Zhejiang Provincial Government. History Wenzhou Medical University (WMU) is a higher institution under the administration of Zhejiang Provincial Government. It can trace its origin back to the former Zhejiang Specialized Medical School established in 1912. In August 1958, a group of faculty was sent from Zhejiang Medical College in Hangzhou to help establish the Second Zhejiang Medical College in Wenzhou, whose name was changed to Wenzhou Medical College in accordance with its location. In 2013 Wenzhou Medical College was officially renamed Wenzhou Medical University. Avicenna Directories
The Avicenna Directory project was a public database of worldwide medical schools, schools of pharmacy, schools of public health and educational institutions of other academic health professions. The Avicenna Directory was maintained by the University of Copenhagen in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) in the years 2008-2015. In 2013, the Avicenna Directory was merged with the International Medical Education Directory (IMED) to create the World Directory of Medical Schools. This new directory was launched in April 2014. Jia Qu
Jia Qu (; born 1955) is a Chinese professor of ophthalmology and optometry. He previously served as the principal of Wenzhou Medical University and a representative member of the 12th National People's Congress. From 2002 to 2015, Qu served as the president of the Wenzhou Medical University. Early life and education Qu was born in 1955 in Urumqi, Xinjiang, China. He completed his clinical medicine program at Wenzhou Medical College from 1978 to 1983. He then pursued a master's degree in ophthalmology at the same institution under the supervision of Professor Miao Tianrong, a pioneer in Chinese ophthalmic optics, completing this degree in 1983. Jian Zhou (; February 24, 1957 – March 9, 1999) was a Chinese virologist and cancer researcher, who with fellow researcher Ian Frazer, invented Gardasil and Cervarix, the vaccines for stimulating human immunological resistance to the cervical cancer-inducing human papilloma virus. Early life and education Zhou was born in 1957 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. He was admitted to Wenzhou Medical College in 1977 and graduated 1982.
