Weber High School (Chicago)
Archbishop Weber High School was a U.S. Roman Catholic all-boys' high school in northwest Chicago, Illinois. Founded in September 1890 as St. Stanislaus College by Rev. Vincent Barzyński, it was the first Polish secondary school in Chicago. It was within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago. History In the 1960s, the school had about 1,200 students. The U.S. Department of Education recognized Weber as a "National Exemplary School" in 1990. In the 1990s, the tuition fees increased and the student population declined by 100 on an annual basis until its final school year, 1998–1999, when it had 250 students and an annual tuition of $4,700 ($ when considering inflation). Archbishop Józef Weber, C.R. (; ; 12 June 1846 – 24 March 1918) was a Roman Catholic prelate, who served as an Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lviv from 2 December 1895 until his resignation on 26 May 1906 and hold the titles of a Titular Bishop of Temnos from 2 December 1895 until 15 April 1901 and a Titular Archbishop of Darnis from 15 April 1901 until his death on 24 March 1918. Life Archbishop Weber was born in a German Bohemian family of the colonists in Bukovina. After graduation from the school and gymnasium education, he subsequently joined the Faculty of Theology at the University of Lviv and the Major Roman Catholic Theological Seminary in Lviv. Vincent Barzyński, C.R. (1838–1899) was a Polish-American Roman Catholic priest and organizer of the Polish-American community. Life He was born Wincenty Barzyński at Sulisławice, Congress Poland, the son of Józef, an organist, and Maryja (Sroczynska) Barzyński. In baptism he received the name Michał (Michael), but during an illness he was placed under the protection of Vincent Ferrer and henceforth called Wincenty (Vincent). Because of frail health, he was educated privately. In 1856 he entered the diocesan seminary at Lublin and was ordained priest, 28 October 1861. William Joseph Skowron (December 18, 1930 – April 27, 2012), nicknamed "Moose", was an American professional baseball first baseman. He played 14 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1954 to 1967 for the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Washington Senators, Chicago White Sox, and California Angels.
