Weber Cup
The Weber Cup, named after professional ten-pin bowler Dick Weber, is a men's ten-pin bowling competition between Team Europe and Team USA. It is often referred to as "bowling's equivalent of golf's Ryder Cup". Each year, a team of five from the United States and a team of five from Europe bowl over three days. The tournament includes a series of single, double, and team (baker) matches. From 2007 onward, the competition plays 33 matches, and the first team to receive 17 points wins the tournament. History and background The Weber Cup is the annual ten-pin bowling championship between the United States and Europe. The Weber Cup is live on Sky Sports in the UK, and on many other international channels around the world. The Weber Cup championship begins every year in October. Tore Torgersen
Tore Torgersen (born 10 September 1968) was one of the world's leading ten-pin bowlers. He is born in Stavanger, Norway but lives in Sweden. Tore started to bowl in 1980. Tore has bowled in the prestigious Weber Cup on three occasions and won two of those events. Tore is a member of the bowling team BK Skrufscha / Sweden and Trondheim BK / Norway. Torgersen has stated that the highlight of his career was becoming world champion in UAE. He also won the Bowling World Cup in Hermosillo, Mexico in 1994. In 2002 Torgersen thrilled a capacity crowd to become the first double champion of the Hasseröder World Tenpin Masters. In 2006, he became a three time World Tenpin Masters champion. He was a member of the PBA (Professional Bowlers Association) earlier but he now runs a proshop and rarely plays outside of Scandinavia unless there's a major championship. Team USA 2008
A team is a group of individuals (human or non-human) working together to achieve their goal. As defined by Professor Leigh Thompson of the Kellogg School of Management, " team is a group of people who are interdependent with respect to information, resources, knowledge and skills and who seek to combine their efforts to achieve a common goal". Pete Weber (bowler)
Peter David Weber (born August 21, 1962) is an American Ten-pin bowling, bowler in the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA), currently exclusive to their age-group PBA50+ tours (PBA50 and PBA60), and a member of the PBA and United States Bowling Congress, USBC Halls of Fame. Weber was one of the sport's most active players and became known for his maverick, chirpy and rebellious personality. He is also known for being incredibly versatile, with his high backswing and the side rotation he puts on the bowling ball helping him control numerous oil conditions. Weber is featured in the ten-pin bowling sports documentary ''A League of Ordinary Gentlemen''. Professional Bowlers Association
The Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) is the major sanctioning body for the sport of professional ten-pin bowling in the United States. Headquartered in Mechanicsville, Virginia, and currently owned by the Lucky Strike Entertainment Corporation since 2019, the PBA's membership consists of over 3,000 members worldwide. Dominic Barrett
Dominic “Dom” Simon Barrett (born 30 July 1985 in Cambridge, England) is one of England's leading ten-pin bowlers. He competes in world events and on the PBA Tour, where he has won ten titles. This total includes three PBA major titles: the PBA World Championship (2013), the U.S. Open (bowling), U.S. Open (2018) and the PBA Tournament of Champions, Tournament of Champions (2022), which makes him one of nine triple crown winners in PBA history and the first European player to accomplish the feat. Osku Palermaa
Osku Palermaa (born 18 November 1983 in Espoo, Finland) is a Finnish ten-pin bowler now living in Partille, Sweden. He is a competitor on the European Bowling Tour, World Bowling Tour, and PBA Tour. Today Palermaa has 18 professional bowling titles to his name. He has won 13 EBT titles, and 5 PBA Tour titles. He was the EBT ranking champion for three consecutive years from 2007 to 2009, he also won the rankings 2011. Palermaa was also joint runner up in the 2005 EBT rankings, and runner up in the 2006 EBT rankings. Osku made his television debut at the 2004 U.S Open, making him the first two-handed bowler to compete in a televised PBA Tour event. Barnsley Metrodome
The Barnsley Metrodome (Metrodome Leisure Complex) is a sports and leisure facility that was opened in 1989 by Neil Kinnock. The facility is 5 minutes from the Barnsley Interchange and close to Junction 37 off the M1. It is located along Queens Road, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, in England.
