Barbara Wanja
Barbara Krause (later Wanja, born on 7 July 1959 in East Berlin) is a former freestyle swimming, freestyle swimmer from East Germany. She was a three-time Olympic gold medalist and eight-time world record holder. At the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Krause won gold medals in the 100 m and 200 m freestyle and in the 4×100 m freestyle relay. Her husband, Lutz Wanja, is also a retired German Olympic swimmer. East German doping Krause, like many of the East German athletes of that time, was Doping (sport), doped by her coaches under instruction from the Ministry for State Security (GDR), ''Stasi''. At the time of the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal Krause was forced off the East German swimming team because "team doctors had miscalculated her dose of drugs and worried she might test positive at the Games". Dorothy Wanja Nyingi (born 1974) is a Kenyan ichthyologist and recipient of the ''Ordre des Palmes académiques'' (''Order of Academic Palms'') for her work on Fish Biodiversity and Aquatic Ecology. She is the head of the Ichthyology Department at the National Museums of Kenya. She is a freshwater ecologist focusing on community driven conservation and the author of the first guide to fresh water fish in Kenya, ''Guide to the Common Freshwater Fishes of Kenya.'' The Don Cossack Choir Serge Jaroff (Хор донских казаков Сергея Жарова) is a men's chorus founded in 1921 consisting of exiled Cossacks by Serge Jaroff and conducted for almost sixty years by him. History Origins at Çilingir internment camp After suffering total defeat at the hands of the Red Army, many Cossacks ended up in the diaspora. In 1921 it was with these very Russian refugees that Serge Jaroff set about forming a choir in the Turkish internment camp , near Istanbul. The Cossacks began to accompany their own church services, and later left for the Greek island of Lemnos. To improve the situation, they started giving open-air concerts, which were especially popular with the British. Wanja Elisabeth Lundby-Wedin (born 19 October 1952) was the President of the Swedish Trade Union Confederation ( or ''LO'') from 2000 to 2012. From May 2007 until May 2011, she was the President of the European Trade Union Confederation. Janet Wanja (24 February 1984 – 26 December 2024) was a Kenyan volleyball player, who competed for her Country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, wearing the number #7 jersey. There she ended up in eleventh place with the Kenya women's national team. Wanja went to Mukumu Girls High School. She played for Kenya Commercial Bank and Kenya Pipeline. In 2007, under their then coach Sammy Kirongo, she led Kenya's national side to its seventh victory at the Women's African Volleyball Championship in the final against Algeria. Lutz Wanja
Lutz Wanja (born 6 June 1956) is a retired German backstroke swimmer who won a bronze medal at the 1973 World Aquatics Championships. He also won three medals at LEN European Aquatics Championships in 1974 and 1977. He competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics, 1972 and 1976 Summer Olympics in the 100 m and 200 m backstroke with the best achievement of fifth place in the 100 m backstroke in 1976. After retirement, Wanja worked as a swimming coach and was involved in the Doping in East Germany, East German doping program. In particular, Jörg Hoffmann (swimmer), Jörg Hoffmann admitted in 1988 that Wanja gave him the anabolic steroid Oral-Turinabol. His wife, Barbara Krause, is a German former Olympic swimmer. Their son, Robert Wanja (born ca. 1983), is also a competitive backstroke swimmer.

Petals Of Blood
''Petals of Blood'' is a novel written by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o and first published in 1977. Set in Kenya just after independence, the story follows four characters – Munira, Abdulla, Wanja, and Karega – whose lives are intertwined due to the Mau Mau rebellion. In order to escape city life, each retreats to the small, pastoral village of Ilmorog. As the novel progresses, the characters deal with the repercussions of the Mau Mau rebellion as well as with a new, rapidly westernizing Kenya. The novel largely deals with the scepticism of change after Kenya's independence from colonial rule, questioning to what extent free Kenya merely emulates, and subsequently perpetuates, the oppression found during its time as a colony. Other themes include the challenges of capitalism, politics, and the effects of westernization.
