Walter Jardine
Walter Lacy Jardine (6 May 1884 – 24 February 1970) was an Australian commercial artist, known for his draftsmanship. Biography Jardine was born in Macdonaldtown, Sydney, the second son of Alfred Henry Jardine (died before 1913), and his wife Amy Mary Jardine, née Lacy (died 20 April 1936). When quite young he was apprenticed to newspaper artist J. H. Leonard, and later studied at an art school conducted by J. S. Watkins. By age 17 he was a regular contributing artist to ''The Australian Star'' newspaper. In October 1910 ''The Lone Hand (magazine), The Lone Hand'' published his pen and ink drawing, "Tennis girl". Macdonaldtown, New South Wales
Macdonaldtown was previously a suburb in Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The suburb was incorporated Erskineville and Newtown. All that remains of Macdonaldtown's legacy is Macdonaldtown railway station. Macdonaldtown was 4 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district, adjacent to the suburbs of Newtown, Eveleigh and Erskineville. Macdonaldtown is informally part of the region of the Inner West. History The suburb of Macdonaldtown was named for Stephen Macdonald, who owned property in the south of the area. It was advertised with the name "Macdonald Town". The whole suburb of Macdonald was incorporated as a local government area in 1872 and was renamed as Erskineville in 1893. Carols by Candlelight is an annual Australian Christmas tradition that was popularised in Melbourne in 1938. The tradition has since spread around the world. Tooheys is a brewery in the suburb of Lidcombe, in Sydney, Australia. It produces beer under the ''Tooheys'' and ''Hahn Brewery'' trademarks, and is part of the Lion (Australasian company), Lion beverages group which was acquired by the Japanese Kirin Company in 2009. Tooth and Co was the major brewer of beer in New South Wales, Australia. The company owned a large brewery on Broadway, Sydney, Broadway in Sydney from 1835 to 1985, known as the Kent Brewery. The Royal Agricultural Society of New South Wales was founded on 5 July 1822, when a group of Sydney's leading citizens formed the Agricultural Society of NSW, and is "a not-for-profit organisation committed to supporting agricultural development and rural communities in Australia." Arnott's Group is an Australian producer of biscuits and snack food. Founded in 1865 by William Arnott, they are the largest producer of biscuits in Australia and a subsidiary of KKR.
