Waller County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 56,794. Its county seat is Hempstead. The county was named for Edwin Waller, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence and first mayor of Austin. Waller County is included in the Houston- The Woodlands- Sugar Land, TX metropolitan statistical area. It is home of the Prairie View A&M University. Edwin Waller
Edwin Leonard Waller (November 4, 1800 – January 3, 1881) was an American businessman, signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, the first mayor of Austin, Texas, and the designer of its downtown grid plan. Texas independence He was born in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, United States, in 1800 to a family settled in the state since colonial times when they emigrated from Buckinghamshire, England. His family later settled in Missouri. In April 1831, he immigrated to the Mexican state of Coahuila y Tejas. On July 20, he received a land grant from the government in present-day Brazoria County. He began a shipping business, transporting cotton from Velasco, Texas, to New Orleans, Louisiana, using his ship, the ''Sabine'', and was once briefly arrested in Velasco for refusing to pay Mexican customs duty. Monaville, Texas
Monaville is an unincorporated community in Waller County, Texas, United States, at the intersection of FMs 359 and FM 1887. The town was named for its founder's daughter in 1886. History The town was founded by Daniel C. Singletary, who opened a grocery store in 1886. Singletary named the settlement after his daughter Mona. The community boasted a post office from 1886 to 1913, when it closed. At this time, Monaville had a school and a cotton gin. In 1941, a total of 75 persons lived in the town. By 1987, the community had a single business and the residents engaged in agricultural pursuits, including raising cattle. Between 1990 and 2000, the population remained steady at 180. Pine Island is a town in Waller County, Texas, United States near the intersection of Farm to Market Road 359 and Farm to Market Road 3346. The population was 1,077 at the 2020 census. It is not affiliated with the uninhabited island of the same name in Lake Livingston. Geography Pine Island is located at (30.063433, –96.022968).
