Wahgunyah is a town in northeastern Victoria, Australia. The town is on the southern bank of the Murray River, opposite Corowa, New South Wales, in the Shire of Indigo. Wahgunyah is north east of the state capital, Melbourne and west of Albury/Wodonga. At the , Wahgunyah had a population of 1,098. The name is believed to be an Aboriginal phrase meaning the resting place of crows. George Sutherland Smith
George Sutherland Smith (1830 – 18 August 1903) was a Scotsman who migrated to Australia, working as a builder and paddle-steamer captain. He turned to winemaking with considerable success, founding the All Saints winery in the Rutherglen region of Victoria. History Smith was born in Caithness, Scotland in 1830 (some sources have 1828), and together with John Banks (1833–1876) trained as a construction engineer, apprenticed as a joiner to Banks's father. Group 13 Rugby League
The Group 13 Rugby league Competition is a defunct New South Wales Country Rugby League group competition which was run under the auspices of the Club Rugby League. It was disbanded after the 1991 Season. It covered an area comprising the southernmost parts of inland New South Wales and even some parts of Northern Victoria. The group was born from the Far South Rugby League and Wagga Rugby League, and was originally called Group 18 between 1934 and 1936. The Far South Rugby League comprised Albury, Holbrook, Henty, Culcairn, Tumbarumba, The Rock and Yerong Creek whilst Wagga Rugby League comprised Wagga Magpies, Wagga Old Boys, Borambola, Farm and Militia. The Goulburn Murray Premiership is a rugby league competition on the border of New South Wales and Victoria, Australia. Initially the competition was established in 1991 as the Goulburn Murray Rugby League by the Country Rugby League and the Victorian Rugby League. The league was disbanded in 2009 before being re-established as the Murray Cup in 2014. As of 2022 there is a competition for both Senior Men's and Women's Tag football. Tallangatta & District Football League
The Tallangatta and District Football League (TDFL) is an Australian rules football competition in north-eastern Victoria (state), Victoria and the southern border area of the Riverina region of New South Wales. The clubs compete across four competitions, two of which are age restricted (under-17s and under-14s). Since 1980, the Tallangatta & District Netball Association (TDNA) has run in conjunction with TDFL. The clubs compete across six competitions, three of which are age restricted (18 & Under, 15 & Under, and 13 & Under). The Corowa Football Club, nicknamed the Spiders, was an Australian rules football club based in Corowa, New South Wales, that competed in the Ovens & Murray Football League. The club merged with the Wahgunyah Football Club on several occasions during its early history and as a result was also known as the Border United Football Club from time to time between 1877 and 1947.
