WNOB (93.7 FM broadcasting, FM) is an adult hits formatted Broadcasting, broadcast radio station licensed to Chesapeake, Virginia, serving Hampton Roads and Northeastern North Carolina. WUSH (106.1 FM) is a country music formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Poquoson, Virginia, serving Hampton Roads. WUSH is owned and operated by Sinclair Telecable, Inc. WUSH is licensed by the FCC to broadcast in the HD radio format. History The 106.1 frequency was formerly a translator for WROX-FM to service signal dropouts in Downtown Norfolk. This signed on in 1995 and was turned off in 2003. In April 2001, a full-powered frequency signed on the air at 106.1 as WEXM, serving the Eastern Shore of Virginia (with a city of license of Exmore), and simulcasting WKOC. The simulcasting would be discontinued in March 2004, as 106.1 would relocate their tower to Hampton and be re-licensed to Poquoson. On March 7, 2004, the 106.1 signal would debut as adult hits WPYA "106.1 Bob-FM". WROX-FM (96.1 MHz) is an alternative rock formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Exmore, Virginia, serving Hampton Roads and the Eastern Shore of Virginia. WROX-FM is owned and operated by Sinclair Telecable, Inc. WROX's studios are located on Waterside Drive in Downtown Norfolk, and its transmitter is located in Cape Charles. History The station signed on in May 1986. Though it initially was planned to be a classical music station as WWGH, it instead signed on as WIAV, "Wave 96", with a top 40/ CHR format. It had been constructed by Elleck Seymour of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, who conceived a network of stations serving mid-Atlantic beach communities. Rhythmic contemporary, also known as Rhythmic Top 20, Rhythmic Top 30, Rhythmic Top 40, Rhythmic CHR or rhythmic crossover, is a primarily American music-radio format that includes a mix of EDM, upbeat rhythmic pop, hip-hop and upbeat R&B hits.
