WGLD-FM (93.9 FM; "The Coast") is a radio station licensed to Conway, South Carolina. Established in 1990 as WJXY-FM, the station is owned by Maryland Media One, and broadcasts a country format. History In the early 1990s, WGLD-FM (as WJXY-FM) played country music as "94X". Starting November 1, 1996, WJXY-FM and WXJY were called "Cruisin' Country", with a format that included rock acts such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers Band and The Marshall Tucker Band. In April 1998, the formats of WJXY-FM and WXJY changed to rhythmic, and the stations were called "Hot 93". Later, the station moved in a mainstream CHR direction, and WSEA was added, so the stations were called "Hot 100 and Hot 93". On February 15, 2003, WIQB 1050 AM was added, and the format changed to ESPN Radio and was named "The Team." WSEA began separate programming. WPGI
WPGI is an oldies radio station licensed to Georgetown, South Carolina, and serving the Grand Strand area. The station is licensed by the Federal Communications Commission to broadcast at 93.7 MHz with an ERP of 6 kW. History WSCA-FM signed on at 93.7 in Georgetown playing classic rock but later joined with WJXY-FM, changing its letters to WXJY. As WJXY's simulcast partner, WXJY was "Cruisin' Country", with a mix of country and rock music, then rhythmic as "Hot 93". WYAY (106.3 FM, "The Coast") is a radio station broadcasting a country format. Licensed to Bolivia, North Carolina, United States, WYAY serves the Wilmington area. The station is currently owned by Steve Clendenin, through licensee Maryland Media One, LLC. History The 106.3 frequency was WCCA, a beach music station and then a classic country station. before taking over the call letters and talk format previously heard on what is now 103.7 WILT when Sea-Comm Media purchased the station. With the callsign WLTT, 106.3 became a news/talk station called "The Big Talker" and in 2004, WWTB, an adult standards station at 103.9 FM which was licensed to Topsail Beach, North Carolina, began airing the same programming. WAYS (1050 kHz) is a silent radio station in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It is owned by Cumulus Media and it had previously aired a sports radio format, much of it from Fox Sports Radio. Its studios are on U.S. Highway 17 in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, and its transmitter is located in the station's city of license, Conway, South Carolina. Programming had also been heard on FM translator W270BZ at 101.9 MHz in Conway. History WAYS originally signed on February 23, 1977, as WJAL. John Donald Imus Jr. ( ; July 23, 1940 – December 27, 2019), also known as Imus, was an American radio personality, television show host, recording artist, and author.
