WEBS (AM)
WEBS (1030 Hertz, kHz) is an American commercial AM radio, AM radio station licensed to serve the community of Calhoun, Georgia; the station serves the Gordon County, Georgia area. The station broadcasts an adult contemporary radio format. History WEBS-AM began broadcasting on November 1, 1966 at 1110 kHz. It was begun by the Stocks family—William, Emma Jo, Bruce and Sandy—from whose names the station's call sign originated. In 1980, WEBS was purchased by Kenyon D. Payne, formerly of Rome, Georgia, Rome. Ken grew up with a microphone in his hand because his father, Mather Payne, was owner and operator of WRGA. Randy Rhodes, owner of WJRP-LP "Power 107.7" in Calhoun, was also involved in station management; WJRP-LP also broadcasts from the same studios on South Wall Street in downtown Calhoun. Calhoun is a city in Gordon County, Georgia, Gordon County, Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia, United States. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, the city had a population of 16,949. Calhoun is the county seat of Gordon County. History In December 1827, Georgia had already claimed the Cherokee lands that became Gordon County and other counties. A small town called "Dawsonville" was created and founded in Gordon County, named for the owner of an early general store. Dawsonville was later renamed "Calhoun" to honor U.S. Senator John C. Calhoun, following his death in 1850. A WikiProject, or Wikiproject, is an affinity group for contributors with shared goals within the Wikimedia movement. WikiProjects are prevalent within the largest wiki, Wikipedia, and exist to varying degrees within sibling projects such as Wiktionary, Wikiquote, Wikidata, and Wikisource. They also exist in different languages, and translation of articles is a form of their collaboration. During the COVID-19 pandemic, CBS News noted the role of Wikipedia's WikiProject Medicine in maintaining the accuracy of articles related to the disease. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets is the name used for all of the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), located in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. W233BF (94.5 FM) – branded as Streetz 94.5 – is a radio station in metro Atlanta, now licensed to serve Atlanta owned by Edgewater Broadcasting. After a series of moves (previously serving the eastern exurb of Social Circle), the station now transmits from the WUPA tower east of downtown, just north of Interstate 20. The station competes with WHTA and WVEE-FM. W233BF is owned by Edgewater Broadcasting, though operated by Core Communications. Originally applied-for in 2003, the station went on the air in July 2007, and immediately requested permission to move to 105.3, becoming W287BI. Due to RF interference from full-power WBZY, it requested to go back to 94.5 in July 2010, regaining its old frequency (and therefore callsign) by December that year. WIPK (94.5 FM) is an American radio station licensed to serve the community of Calhoun, Georgia. The station's broadcast is held C. Steve Hegwood, through licensee Core Communicators North LLC. Coverage area WIPK transmits from east-southeast of the city, on the ridge east of Interstate 75. Completing its application, construction permit, and application for broadcast license all within 2011, the station serves several counties in northwest Georgia, including all of Gordon county and parts of surrounding ones. The usable signal usually reaches as far south and southeast as the north and northwestern exurbs of metro Atlanta. Reception in the Etowah/ Allatoona basin is typically good in places near Cartersville and Woodstock, but south of the ridge that includes Kennesaw Mountain and Sweat Mountain, signal strength drops off going down toward the Chattahoochee River valley, where it is now overwhelmed by W233BF.
