WCMR (1270 AM) is a radio station licensed to Elkhart, Indiana, United States. The station is owned by Progressive Broadcasting System. WCMR airs a full-time southern gospel format, using Salem Radio Networks' "Solid Gospel" format. History The station went on the air as WCMR in 1956. WCMR broadcast a country music format for many years. From July 5, 1993, until June 16, 2008, the station used the call sign WFRN, with Christian talk programming separate from sister WFRN-FM which focuses on contemporary Christian music. Until the summer of 2012, WCMR utilized most of its weekday programming schedule for conservative talk as "Smart Talk 1270". Elkhart, Indiana
Elkhart ( ) is a city in Elkhart County, Indiana, United States. The population was 53,923 at the 2020 census. The city is located east of South Bend, Indiana. It is the most populous city in the Elkhart–Goshen metropolitan area, which in turn is part of the South Bend–Elkhart–Mishawaka combined statistical area, in a region commonly known as Michiana. History When the Northwest Territory was organized in 1787, the area now known as Elkhart was mainly inhabited by the Ottawa, Chippewa, and Potawatomi Indian tribes.
