WAPI (AM)
WAPI (1070 Hertz, kHz, "Talk 99-5, Birmingham's Real Talk") is a commercial radio, commercial AM broadcasting, AM radio station in Birmingham, Alabama. It is owned by Cumulus Media. Until going silent (broadcasting), silent in 2025, it carried a talk radio, news/talk radio format, format, simulcast with FM broadcasting, FM sister station 99.5 WZRR. The radio studios and offices are on Goodwin Crest Drive in Homewood, Alabama, Homewood. In broadcasting, a dark television station or silent radio station is one that has gone off the air for an indefinite period of time. Usually unlike dead air (broadcasting only silence), a station that is dark or silent does not even transmit a carrier signal. AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands. HD Radio (HDR) is a trademark for in-band on-channel (IBOC) digital radio broadcast technology. HD radio generally simulcast, simulcasts an existing analog radio station in digital format with less noise and with additional text information. The program is syndicated nationwide by Westwood One, and originates from WBAP in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The show traces its history through several predecessors, beginning with Bill Mack's overnight truck show in 1969. ''The Mark Levin Show'' is a conservative talk radio show hosted by Mark Levin. History Levin began his career as a radio host in 2002 in a Sunday afternoon timeslot on WABC. Homewood is a city in southeastern Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. It is a suburb of Birmingham, located on the other side of Red Mountain due south of the city center.
