Vossloh Euro Dual
The Stadler Euro Dual (known as the Vossloh Euro Dual until 2015) is a series of dual power, electro-diesel locomotive by Stadler Rail Valencia. Unlike traditional dual mode locomotives, fitted with relatively low-powered diesel engines for 'last mile' movements only, vehicles are typically furnished with power units more comparable to that of mainline diesel locomotives. The Euro Dual series was launched by Vossloh during 2012, it shares a considerably large portion of its design with the single power Euro Light family of locomotives. Being customisable to meet customer demands, various sized powerplants can be fitted to the type; it can also be configured as a tri mode vehicle via the installation of a battery pack. To date, there are three distinct versions of the Euro Dual that have seen customer use; the ''UKDual'' for the United Kingdom, the ''PrasaDual'' for South Africa and an unbranded series for Germany. Co-Co Locomotive
Co-Co is the wheel arrangement for diesel or electric locomotives with two six-wheeled bogies with all axles powered, with a separate traction motor per axle. The equivalent UIC classification (Europe) for this arrangement is Co′Co′, or C-C for AAR (North America). Use Co-Cos are most suited to freight work as the extra wheels give them good traction. They are also popular because the greater number of axles results in a lower axle load to the track. History The first mainline diesel-electric locomotives were of Bo-Bo arrangement. As they grew in power and weight, from 1937 the EMD E-units used an A1A-A1A layout with six axles to reduce axle load, but only four of them were powered. British Rail Class 99 (locomotive)
The British Rail Class 99 is a planned class of dual-mode electro-diesel Co-Co locomotives that will haul freight trains on both electrified and non-electrified lines. Stadler UKLight
The Stadler Eurolight (known as the Vossloh Eurolight until 2015) is the brand name for a family of 4-axle Bo'Bo' mainline diesel-electric locomotives with sub-20-tonne axleloads for passenger and freight trains produced by Stadler Rail.
