Vladimir Georgiyevich Belyayev (russian: Владимир Георгиевич Беляев) (September 15, 1933 in Nalchik – January 23, 2001) was a Soviet football player. Honours * Soviet Top League winner: 1957, 1959, 1963. * Soviet Cup winner: 1953. International career Belyayev made his debut for USSR on August 15, 1957 in a 1958 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Finland. He was selected for the World Cup final tournament squad, but did not play in any games there. 1960 European Nations' Cup
The 1960 European Nations' Cup was the first edition of the UEFA European Championship, held every four years and organised by UEFA. The first tournament was held in France. It was won by the Soviet Union, who beat Yugoslavia 2–1 in Paris after extra time. The tournament was a knockout competition; just 17 teams entered with some notable absences, West Germany, Italy and England among those missing. The teams would play home-and-away matches until the semi-finals; the final four teams would then move on to the final tournament, whose host was selected after the teams became known. In the quarter-finals, Spain, who were under Francoist rule, refused to travel to the Soviet Union for political reasons. 1958 FIFA World Cup
The 1958 FIFA World Cup was the sixth FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial football tournament for men's senior national teams, and was played in Sweden from 8 to 29 June 1958. It was the first FIFA World Cup to be played in a Nordic country. Brazil beat Sweden 5–2 in the final in the Stockholm suburb of Solna to claim their first title. The tournament also marked the arrival of a then 17-year-old Pelé on the world stage. This was the first appearance of Wales at the FIFA World Cup and they would not qualify for another until 64 years later. There were also debut appearances for Northern Ireland and the Soviet Union. Host selection Argentina, Chile, Mexico, and Sweden expressed interest in hosting the tournament.
