Vince Powell
Vincent Joseph Powell (6 August 1928 – 13 July 2009) was a British television scriptwriter. He collaborated with a writing partner, Harry Driver, until 1973. Early life Powell was born as Vincent Joseph Smith to Roman Catholic parents in Miles Platting, Manchester. When he was five, his mother died; two years later, his father remarried. Powell began a career as a tailor following the lead of his father, while performing as a comedian in the evenings. He met Harry Driver on the local club circuit. Their performing partnership under the name Hammond and Powell lasted until 1955 when Driver's health and physical mobility became severely impaired by the onset of Poliomyelitis, polio. Career With his writing partner, Harry Driver, the partnership was hired to write material for comedian Harry Worth in Manchester for the BBC in 1960. Alfred Vincent Smith (23 January 1913 – 17 February 1995) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Hawthorn granted Smith a clearance to the Brocklesby Football Club, NSW where they finish 3rd in 1937 and 4th in 1938 in the Albury & District Football League with Smith as their captain / coach. Vincent Smith (born February 7, 1990) is a former collegiate American football running back and return specialist. He played college football at the University of Michigan from 2009 to 2012. He led Michigan's running backs in rushing yardage during the 2010 season. Early years Smith grew up in Pahokee, Florida and played high school football at Pahokee High School. He totaled 4,677 yards and 58 touchdowns at Pahokee, including more than 2,000 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns as a senior. Vince Smith (Vincent Stuart Smith) is a British entomologist and biodiversity informatician at the Natural History Museum, London. Education and career Smith completed a bachelor's degree at the University of Bristol, before completing a PhD at the University of Glasgow specialising on parasitic lice (Phthiraptera). Smith was born in the Tresillian Hospital, Nedlands, to parents Ross and Ina. Both his father Ross Smith (Charles David) and grandfather Charles Patrick Smith were involved in the newspaper business in Perth, with Charles Patrick Smith the managing editor of West Australian Newspapers Ltd. Vincent Arthur Smith, , (3 June 1843 – 6 February 1920) was an Irish Indologist, historian, member of the Indian Civil Service, and curator. He was one of the prominent figures in Indian historiography during the British Raj. In the 1890s, he was key to exposing the forgeries of Alois Anton Führer, then working for the Archaeological Survey of India, who Smith caught in the act of making fake inscriptions. Vincent Reynolds Smith (December 18, 1890 – May 3, 1960) was a lawyer and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Yorkton from 1934 to 1938 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. Life and career Smith was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, the son of Charles Reynolds Smith and Mary Gavin, and was educated at St. Francis Xavier University and Dalhousie University. His brother Robert Knowlton Smith was also a politician, serving in the House of Commons of Canada from 1925 to 1935. He opened a law practice in Regina in 1914, later moving to Yorkton. In 1915, Smith married Rita Fitzgerald. Smith was defeated by Alan Carl Stewart when he ran for reelection to the assembly in 1938. He was a prominent member of the Knights of Columbus, founding the Yorkton Council and serving as its first Grand Knight.
