Villa Castelli (Argentina)
Villa Castelli is a small town and seat of the General Lamadrid Department in the Province of La Rioja, northwestern Argentina. As of 2010 it had a population of 1,697. Around west of the city of La Rioja, it is at the foot of the Sierra de Famatina, and the Vichina River flows in the vicinity. In March 2015, a helicopter collision in the town killed 10 people, including French athletes Florence Arthaud, Camille Muffat and Alexis Vastine Alexis Vastine (17 November 1986 – 9 March 2015) was a French boxer who won a bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in the Light Welterweight division. La Rioja Province, Argentina
La Rioja () is a province of Argentina located in the west of the country. The landscape of the province consist of a series of arid to semi-arid mountain ranges and agricultural valleys in between. It is in one of these valleys that the capital of the province, the city of la La Rioja, lies. Neighboring provinces are from the north clockwise Catamarca, Córdoba, San Luis and San Juan. Villa Castelli Helicopter Collision
On 9 March 2015, two Eurocopter AS350 Écureuil helicopters collided mid-air near Villa Castelli, Argentina, killing all ten people on board both aircraft. The helicopters had just departed together from the same spot and collided during the initial climb-out. They were transporting production staff and guests for the French reality TV series ''Dropped'', and among the victims were French sailor Florence Arthaud, swimmer Camille Muffat and boxer Alexis Vastine. Florence Arthaud (28 October 1957 – 9 March 2015) was a French sailor from Boulogne-Billancourt. She was the daughter of Jacques Arthaud, director of the Arthaud publishing house. Biography At age 17, she was in a serious car accident, which resulted in paralysis. She was hospitalized for six months and her recovery took two years. She had a daughter with Loïc Lingois, a French professional sailor. In 1989, she recorded a song, "Flo", with Pierre Bachelet about her sailing. In 1990, she won the ''Route du Rhum'' for ''Pierre 1er''. In 1997, she won the Transpacific with Bruno Peyron. She sailed in the 1989–90 Whitbread Round the World Race on board ''Charles Jourdan''. Camille Muffat
Camille Muffat (; 28 October 1989 – 9 March 2015) was a French swimmer and three-time Olympic medalist. Swimming for the Olympic Nice Natation club, she specialised in the individual medley and the free style events. Her career ran from 2005 to 2014. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, she won gold in the 400-metre freestyle, silver in the 200-metre freestyle and bronze in the 4×200-metre freestyle relay, becoming the fourth French swimmer to win an individual Olympic gold medal. She was also the third French athlete overall to win three Olympic medals at a single edition of the Olympic Games.
