Vilhelm Evang
Vilhelm Andreas Wexelsen Evang (9 November 1909 – 5 January 1983) was a Norwegian military officer. He headed the military intelligence in Norway for almost twenty years, from 1946 to 1965. Personal life Evang was born in Aker as the son of Jens Ingolf Evang and Anna Beate Wexelsen. He grew up in Kristiania, and married Lisbeth Broch in 1938. He was a brother of civil servant Karl Evang. Career Early career Evang finished his examen artium in 1927, and started studying natural sciences at the University of Oslo. As a student, Evang was a member of the radical left-wing organization Mot Dag, and as such in opposition to military service. He contributed to the encyclopaedia project Arbeidernes Leksikon in the 1930s, writing articles on geography and natural science. He later became a member of the Norwegian Labour Party. The Norwegian Intelligence Service (NIS) or Etterretningstjenesten (E-tjenesten) is a Norwegian military intelligence agency under the Chief of Defence and the Ministry of Defence. Aker, Norway
Aker was a former independent municipality in Akershus, Norway, that constitutes the vast majority of the territory of the modern city of Oslo. The name originally belonged to a farm which was located near the current Old Aker Church. The church in turn became the source of the name of the parish and later municipality as well as Akershus Fortress, the main fief and main county of Akershus which included most of Eastern Norway until 1919, the smaller county of Akershus, and numerous institutions within this area. Aker municipality was in terms of population by far the largest municipality of Akershus county and surrounded the capital city of Christiania (renamed Oslo in 1925) until 1948; Aker was 27 times larger than the capital it surrounded. Asbjørn Bryhn
Asbjørn Johan Bryhn (24 August 1906 – 21 January 1990) was a Norwegian police officer, known for his resistance work during World War II, and later head of the Norwegian Police Surveillance Agency. Personal life Bryhn was born in Drammen as the son of teacher Johannes Bryhn and teacher Inga Marie Helgesen. He married teacher Karen Sørensen in 1938. He died in Oslo in 1990. Career Bryhn studied law at the Royal Frederick University from 1925, graduating in 1930. While being a student he was a member of the socialist and pacifist organization Clarté. From 1930 he worked in Svolvær for two years, and later with the police in Oslo. After the German occupation of Norway, Bryhn served as assistant of Chief of Police of Oslo Kristian Welhaven. Øystein Sørensen (born 17 October 1954) is a Norwegian historian. A professor at the University of Oslo since 1996, he has published several books on the history of ideas, including Norwegian nationalism and national socialism, as well as general Norwegian World War II history. Born at Strømmen, he took the cand.philol. degree in 1981. His main inspiration for studying history was Jens Arup Seip and his inclination towards incorporating the history of ideas in general history.
