Mario Soffici
Mario Soffici (14 May 1900 – 10 May 1977) was an Argentine film director, actor and screenwriter of the classic era. Biography A native of Florence, Soffici moved to Argentina in the 1920s and began acting in 1931 and directing in 1935 on the film '' El Alma de Bandoneón'', working with popular actors of the period such as Libertad Lamarque in tango-based musical films. He directed some 40 films between 1935 and 1962, most notably '' Prisioneros de la tierra'' (1939) (often cited as one of the greatest in Argentine cinema), '' El Curandero'' (1955), '' El hombre que debía una muerte'' (1955) and '' Rosaura a las 10'' (1958). He directed and co-wrote with Eduardo Boneo and Francisco Madrid'' La cabalgata del circo,'' where Eva Duarte played a supporting role. He died in Buenos Aires in 1977. The 100 Greatest Films of Argentine Cinema (Spanish: ''Las 100 mejores películas del cine argentino''), also known as the Survey of Argentine cinema (Spanish: ''Encuesta de cine argentino''), are a series of opinion polls carried out to establish a list of the greatest films of Argentine cinema of all time. The original survey was carried out by the Museo del Cine Pablo Ducrós Hicken in the years 1977, 1984, 1991 and 2000. In 2022, a new edition was held, organized by the film magazines ''La vida útil'', ''Taipei'' and ''La tierra quema'', with support from INCAA, the Mar del Plata International Film Festival, the FestiFreak International Film Festival of La Plata, the Casa de la Cultura of General Roca and the Museo del Cine Pablo Ducrós Hicken. Museo del Cine Pablo Ducrós Hicken is a museum of cinema of Argentina located in Buenos Aires. It was established on 1971 and holds a collection of 65,000 reels of film. History The Cinema Museum of the City of Buenos Aires was created on October 1, 1971, from the film collection donated by the widow of researcher and collector Pablo C. Ducrós Hicken. In its founding act, it defines the central objectives that remain to this day: to exhibit and preserve the objects that are part of its heritage and to increase the collection dedicated to Argentine cinema.
