Victoria River (Northern Territory)
The Victoria River is a river in the Victoria Bonaparte bioregion of the Northern Territory, Australia. Location and features Flowing for from its source, south of the Judbarra / Gregory National Park, until it enters Joseph Bonaparte Gulf in the Timor Sea, the Victoria River is the longest singularly named permanent river in the Northern Territory. Part of the area adjoining the river mouth has been identified as the Legune (Joseph Bonaparte Bay) Important Bird Area because of its importance for waterbirds. However, the longest permanent river in the Northern Territory, as defined by international standards, is the Katherine/Daly River. This is a single river with two separating (at the Flora River tributary) European names. Jabiru, Northern Territory
Jabiru is a town in the Northern Territory of Australia. Built in 1982, the town is completely surrounded by Kakadu National Park. At the 2016 census, Jabiru had a population of 1,081. It is named after the black-necked stork often seen in the wetlands and billabongs of Kakadu, which is commonly referred to in Australia as a Jabiru (not to be confused with the stork native to South and Central America). John Clements Wickham
John Clements Wickham (21 November 17986 January 1864) was a Scottish explorer, naval officer, magistrate and administrator. He was first lieutenant on during its second survey mission, 1831–1836, under captain Robert FitzRoy. The young naturalist and geologist Charles Darwin was a supernumerary on the ship, and his journal was published as ''The Voyage of the Beagle''. After that expedition, Wickham was promoted to Commander and made captain of the ''Beagle'' on its third voyage, from 1837 and conducted various maritime expeditions and hydrographic surveys along the Australian coastline. In 1843, after his retirement from the Royal Navy, Wickham was made Police Magistrate and, later, Government Resident of the Moreton Bay District, in the Colony of New South Wales (NSW). Rear Admiral Phillip Parker King, FRS, RN (13 December 1791 – 26 February 1856) was an early explorer of the Australian and Patagonian coasts. Coolibah Station
Coolibah Station is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station in the Northern Territory of Australia. It is situated about east of Timber Creek and south west of Katherine with the homestead situated along the Victoria River. The property running 80,000 head of cattle is owned by Milton Jones. Jones, who owns a helicopter business specializes in aerial mustering, bought the property in 1988 with cash. The station is best known for being the location of the reality television program Keeping up with the Joneses. The property was acquired by Patrick Quilty, the son of Tom Quilty, in 1938.
