Vestnes Municipality
Vestnes is a municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. Vestnes is part of the traditional district of Romsdal. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Vestnes. Other villages in the municipality include Vikebukt, Vik, Vågstranda, Øverås, Fiksdal, Tomrefjord, and Tresfjord. The area is known for nature and outdoor pursuits, and has a long history in ship building and maritime crafts. The village of Vestnes (Helland) dates back to early medieval times, and has 24-hour ferry and water taxi service with the town of Molde to the northeast. The ferry takes about 35-minutes each way. Vestnes (village)
Vestnes (sometimes called ''Helland'') is the administrative centre of Vestnes Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The village is located on the western shore of the Tresfjorden, near where the fjord empties into the main Romsdalsfjord. The village lies along the European route E39 highway. The village has a population (2018) of 2,428 and a population density of . The villages of Vik and Tomra lie about to the southwest, the village of Tresfjord lies about to the south, and the village of Vikebukt lies directly across the Tresfjorden from Vestnes. The Tresfjord Bridge was completed in 2015, connecting Vikebukt to the southern part of Vestnes by bridge rather than an estimated 30-minute drive all the way around the fjord. Rauma Municipality
Rauma is a municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is part of the traditional district of Romsdal. The administrative centre is the town of Åndalsnes. Other settlements in Rauma include the villages of Måndalen, Innfjorden, Veblungsnes, Verma, Isfjorden, Eidsbygda, Rødven, Åfarnes, and Mittet. Most settlement in the municipality is located along the fjords and in the Romsdalen valley. The Schei Committee ( no, Schei-komitéen) was a committee named by the Government of Norway to look into the organization of municipalities in Norway post-World War II. It convened in 1946, and its formal name was (The 1946 Committee on Municipal Division). Its more commonly used name derives from the committee leader, Nikolai Schei Nikolai Andreas Schei (9 May 1901 – 25 May 1985) was a Norwegian jurist and civil servant. It encompassed about in the southern part of the present-day Vestnes Municipality. () is the name for Norwegian local self-government districts that were legally enacted on 1 January 1838. This system of municipalities was created in a bill approved by the Parliament of Norway and signed into law by King Carl Johan on 14 January 1837. Veøy Municipality
Veøy is a former municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1964. It initially consisted of all of the present-day Vestnes Municipality, as well as the southern part of Molde Municipality and the northern part of Rauma Municipality. Vestnes Municipality was only part of Veøy for a few months in 1838 before it was made into a separate municipality. In 1964, the municipality was split between Molde and Rauma municipalities. Veøy Municipality was named after the island of Veøya, the administrative centre, where the main church for the municipality ( Old Veøy Church) was located. The long fjord branches off of the main Romsdal Fjord, and it is one of the two main fjords that cut into the municipality.
