Veroli ( la, Verulae) is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Frosinone, Lazio, central Italy, in the Latin Valley. History Veroli (''Verulae'') became a Roman municipium in 90 BC. It became the seat of a bishopric in 743 AD, and was occupied by Spanish soldiers, allied to the Colonna family, in the 16th century. Main sights Veroli retains elements of its ancient polygonal nucleus, especially near the summit of the hill, later occupied by a medieval castle. The Cathedral's treasury contains the breviary of St. Louis of Toulouse, and some interesting reliquaries, one in ivory with bas-reliefs, and two in the Gothic style, of silver gilt. Near Veroli is the Gothic Abbey of Casamari. In Via Garibaldi is located Sant'Erasmo, a Romanesque architecture, Roman Catholic church and convent. Maria Fortunata Viti
Maria Fortunata Viti (born Anna Felicia Viti; 10 February 1827 – 20 November 1922) was an Italian Benedictine nun who has been beatified by the Roman Catholic Church. Life Anna Felicia Viti was born in Veroli, a ''comune'' in Italy's Province of Frosinone, on 10 February 1827. Her father was Luigi Viti, a landowner who was a gambling addict and a heavy drinker, and her mother Anna, ''née'' Bono, died when Viti was fourteen years old. The third eldest of nine children, Maria was saddled with the responsibility of raising the other children upon the death of her mother. In order to support her family, she worked as a housekeeper. Her father's alcoholism grew worse, and so Viti's employment constituted the majority of the family's income. For a while, she was wooed by a young man from Alatri, but she decided to enter religious life instead. Sant'Erasmo is a Romanesque architecture, Roman Catholic church and convent located on Via Garibaldi in the town of Veroli, province of Frosinone, region of Lazio, Italy. History Tradition holds that the monastery was founded around the year 1000 by St Benedict of Nursia during a trip from Subiaco abbey to Montecassino abbey. The interior of the church has been refurbished over the ages but the exteriors maintain the Romanesque architecture, with a portico with rounded arches. Casamari Abbey is a Cistercian abbey in the Province of Frosinone, Lazio, Italy, about 10 kilometers (6 miles) east-south-east of Veroli.
