Veil Of Maya
Veil of Maya is an American metalcore band, formed in Chicago, Illinois, by members Marc Okubo and Sam Applebaum in 2004. They are currently signed to Sumerian Records and have released six studio albums. Their first four albums are considered to be deathcore, but their fifth album, ''Matriarch'', is considered to be metalcore. They have also been associated with djent. History Formation and demo (2004–2006) Veil of Maya formed in 2004 in Chicago, Illinois after melodic death metal band Insurrection broke up, which led members Marc (lead guitar), Sam (drums) and Kris (bassist) to start up the new project. Guitarist Timothy Marshall and vocalist Adam joined shortly thereafter. After recording a self-released demo in 2005, guitarist Scott Okarma briefly joined the group, participating in local shows and early touring. Matriarch (album)
''Matriarch'' is the fifth studio album by American metalcore band Veil of Maya. It is the band's first album with vocalist Lukas Magyar. The album was produced, mixed and mastered by Taylor Larson of From First to Last. Background As stated by guitarist Marc Okubo, every song of the album talks about a female character that he liked in movies, TV shows or comics. The single "Phoenix" was released on January 1, 2015. Prior to the song's release, the band posted updates on their social media accounts with the hashtag "VeilHasRisen". A music video for the song "Mikasa" was released on March 23, as well as revealing the album's name and release date. The album became available for streaming on May 11. MetalSucks is a heavy metal music-themed news website. The site features reviews, interviews, information on latest metal releases and blog-like posts from the writers, most notably Vince Neilstein and Axl Rosenberg. History The site was founded in December 2006 by authors Ben Umanov and Matthew Goldenberg who use the pen names Vince Neilstein and Axl Rosenberg. In April 2009, MetalSucks was awarded Metal Hammer's Web of Death Award for "Best Reviews" for its "honest, insightful, unpretentious – and fun – reviews." Top Heatseekers are "Breaking and Entering" music charts issued weekly by ''Billboard'' magazine. The Heatseekers Albums and the Heatseekers Songs charts were introduced by ''Billboard'' in 1991 with the purpose of highlighting the sales by new and developing musical recording artists. Screaming is an extended vocal technique that is popular in "aggressive" music genres such as heavy metal, punk rock, and noise music and others. It is common in the more extreme subgenres of heavy metal, such as death and black metal as well as many other subgenres. Genres Classical and experimental music Although screams are often suggested in stories performed in the grand opera tradition, they were never performed literally, always being sung. The first significant example of an actual scream in an opera is in Alban Berg's ''Wozzeck'' (1922), where the eponymous character screams "Murder! Murder!" in the fourth scene of Act III. A death growl, or simply growl, is an extended vocal technique usually employed in extreme styles of music, particularly in death metal and other extreme subgenres of heavy metal music. Oceans Ate Alaska are a British metalcore band hailing from Birmingham formed in 2010. The band are currently signed to Fearless Records and are known for "uniting boundaries between multiple genres in modern metal" and for "fusing unpredictable polyrhythms and sporadic partnering of melodic and dissonant passages". Original vocalist, James Harrison came up with the band name; naming it after the 1950 Lituya Bay tsunami that swallowed one of Alaska’s gulfs. History Oceans Ate Alaska was founded in 2010 by Birmingham University's students James Harrison, James 'Jibs' Kennedy, Josh Salthouse, Alex Hurdley and Chris Turner. Chelsea Grin is an American deathcore band from Salt Lake City, Utah. Formed in 2007, the group have released two EPs and five full-length albums. Since 2018, no original members remain in the band. Chelsea Grin was originally founded under the name ''Ahaziah''. The lineup for Ahaziah included vocalist Alex Koehler, guitarist Chris Kilbourn, bassist Austin Marticorena and lead guitarist Michael Stafford. Marticorena introduced Andrew Carlston to Chelsea Grin and assisted in rewriting their songs as well as the creation of new material as they changed the name to Chelsea Grin soon after. I Declare War is an American deathcore band from Seattle, Washington. History The band was founded in 2005. The original lineup consisted of Johnathan Huber (vocals), Evan Hughes (guitar), Jake Paulson (guitar), Randy Carpenter (drums), and Zack Ring (bass).
