Vatican City Championship
The Vatican City Championship ( it, Campionato della Città del Vaticano) is the top men's association football league of Vatican City. Founded in 1972 as the Coppa Amicizia, teams are composed of workers representing various state departments. Teams are permitted to field an outside player from Italian amateur teams to play as goalkeeper. The league's best players are combined to form the Vatican City national team for rare friendly matches. The Vatican football association, Federazione Vaticanese Giuoco Calcio, is not a member of FIFA and is overseen by its president Domenico Ruggerio as of May 2014. All matches are played at the Associazione Sportivo La Salle complex in Western Rome, although the larger Campo Cardinale Francis Joseph Spellman served as home until recently. Poste Vaticane is an organization responsible for postal service in Vatican City. The organization is part of the Post and Telegraphy Service. History The use of stamps was introduced in the Vatican in 1852. Poste Vaticane was created in 1929 following the Lateran Treaty. It started operations on 1 August 1929 (or February 1929). Its yellow mail boxes became iconic in the landscape of the papal city. The Poste Vaticane also handled the state's telegraph communications. The air courier system was set up in 1938. The Poste Vaticane joined the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations in 1965, and PostEurop in 2012. Clericus Cup
The Clericus Cup is an annual association football tournament contested by teams from the Roman Colleges, which are seminaries of the Catholic Church located in Rome. During the fourth season (2010), the tournament involved sixteen schools and fielded players from 65 countries, with the majority coming from Brazil, Italy, Mexico, and the United States. The players are normally seminarians studying to be Roman Catholic priests. A handful of players are ordained priests. The annual tournament is organized by the (CSI). The league was founded in 2007, and matches for the fourteenth season will begin in March 2022, after two seasons were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Officially, the goal of the league is to "reinvigorate the tradition of sport in the Christian community" and has been called the "clerical equivalent of soccer’s World Cup." Dino Da Costa
Dino da Costa (; 1 August 1931 – 10 November 2020) was a Brazilian-Italian professional footballer, who played as a central midfielder or striker. Club career Da Costa was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A prolific and effective centre-forward, he began his football career in his native country with Botafogo (1948–55), for whom he scored 36 goals from 51 appearances in the Campeonato Carioca, winning the top-goalscorer award in 1954, with 24 goals, and the league title in 1948, forming a notable attacking partnership with Vinício. An apostolic nuncio ( la, nuntius apostolicus; also known as a papal nuncio or simply as a nuncio) is an ecclesiastical diplomat, serving as an envoy or a permanent diplomatic representative of the Holy See to a state or to an international organization. A nuncio is appointed by and represents the Holy See, and is the head of the diplomatic mission, called an Apostolic Nunciature, which is the equivalent of an embassy. Gabriele Giordano Caccia (born 24 February 1958) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who works in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He has worked in the offices of the Secretariat of State and served as Apostolic Nuncio in Lebanon and the Philippines. He was named Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations in 2019. Biography Caccia was born in Milan but lived for many years in Cavaria con Premezzo. He was ordained a priest on 11 June 1983 by Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini and served in St. Giovanni Bosco parish in Milan until 1986. He attended the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy and obtained a Doctorate in Sacred Theology (S.T.D.) and a Licentiate of Canon Law (J.C.L.) from the Pontifical Gregorian University. The Holy See reported the first case of infection in Vatican City on 7 March 2020.
