Valparaíso Province
Valparaíso Province ( es, Provincia de Valparaíso) is one of eight provinces of the central Chilean region of Valparaíso (V). Its capital is the coastal city of Valparaíso (pop. 275,982). Administration As a province, Valparaíso is a second-level administrative division, it was governed by a provincial governor who was appointed by the president. Since 2021, however, it is directly governmed by a regional presidential delegate, also appointed by the President, because one of its communes is the regional capital. Marga Marga Province
Marga Marga Province ( es, Provincia de Marga Marga) is one of the eight provinces in the central Chilean region of Valparaíso (V). Its capital is the city of Quilpué. History The province was created by Law 20,368 on August 25, 2009, and it became operative on March 11, 2010. Villa Alemana
Villa Alemana ("German Village" in English) is a city and commune in Chile's Zona Central. It was founded in 1896 by Italian and German immigrants. Villa Alemana is a part of the urban area known as Greater Valparaiso. Villa Alemana's flag is notable for having the flag of the German Empire banded on it, along with the Flag of Germany. Quilpué
Quilpué is a city and capital of the Marga Marga Province in central Chile's Valparaíso Region. It is part of the Greater Valparaíso metropolitan area. It is widely known as "City of the Sun" (''Ciudad del Sol'') and the urban part of it also comprises the town of El Belloto, an area that showed rapid growth in the late 1990s. Etymology There are various theories about the origin of the word ''Quilpué''. According to some, ''Quilpué'' means ''place where there are pigeons'', arguing that pigeons were found abundantly in the area and that the name derives from the aboriginal words ''cullpo'' (''dove'') and ''hue'' (''place''). Other authors suggest that it means ''place of the stone lancet'', because the Picunches (the indigenous Mapuche people) were experts in the manufacture of these items that were used for medical procedures. Isla De Pascua Department
Isla de Pascua Department, also named Easter Island Department, was one of the departments of the historical province of Valparaíso before the "regionalization" of 1974. It was named after Easter Island and comprised such territory and the Sala y Gómez island. History The department was created by Law No. 16.441 by president Eduardo Frei Montalva. It became effective on 1 March 1966, when it was published in the ''Diario Oficial de la República de Chile''. Hanga Roa was declared as the capital of the department, and would comprise the territories of Easter Island and Isla Sala y Gómez. Its only commune-subdelegation was Isla de Pascua, subdivided into three districts.
