''Whalers'' (Swedish: ''Valfångare'') is a 1939 Swedish drama film directed by Anders Henrikson and Tancred Ibsen and starring Allan Bohlin, Tutta Rolf, and Hauk Aabel. It was Rolf's final film. The film's sets were designed by the art director Arne Åkermark. Synopsis The Swedish captain, Allan Bohlin gives passage to Tutta Rolf, who is the daughter of the ship's owner, Hauk Aabel. At this point, the chief mate, Oscar Egede-Nissen, becomes jealous and puts the Swede onto the Norwegian whaling ship Kosmos II, which is heading for the Southern Ocean, with Karl Holter as captain. Oscar Egede-Nissen (March 7, 1903 – November 1, 1976) was a Norwegians, Norwegian actor. He appeared in dozens of films from his debut in 1936 onward, his last being ''An-Magritt'' in 1969. Egede-Nissen was an unruly child, and he was sent to the alternative Odenwaldschule, Odenwald School in Germany. He came home and started high school, but soon left again, this time on a long trip to South America. He went whaling and spent time in Buenos Aires. He ended up as an illegal immigrant to the United States, where he became a professional soldier and flew to the Philippines. There he had a falling out with a lieutenant, and he was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment. With the help of connections in Norway, including Prime Minister Johan Ludwig Mowinckel, he was pardoned after 14 months. Karl Holter
Karl Holter (June 30, 1885 – June 7, 1963) was a Norwegian actor, writer, and Waffen--SS soldier. Holter was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. He debuted in 1912 at the Central Theater and after that was mainly engaged with the Norwegian Theater until 1935. He was also a journalist for the newspaper ''Stavanger Aftenblad'' from 1917 to 1920. Literary activity In 1936, at age 51, Holter won the Norwegian part of an international novel competition with the story ''Skinnbrevet'' (The Parchment Letter). This was also his debut as a writer. In 1941, Holter became a member of Nasjonal Samling. The same year, he directed Henrik Ibsen's '' Ghosts'' for NRK's Radio Theater. In 1942 he volunteered for active front duty. After a short period of officer training, at age 57 Holter was sent to the Leningrad Front from October 1942 to March 1943 as a war correspondent. Karl Erik "Bullen" Berglund (30 June 1887 – 27 April 1963) was a Swedish actor, director and writer. Berglund was one of Sweden's most popular male actors in Swedish films from the 1930s to the 1950s. He appeared in more than a hundred films.
