VVT-i, or Variable Valve Timing with intelligence, is an automobile variable valve timing technology developed by Toyota. It was first introduced in 1995 with the ''Toyota JZ engine#2JZ-GE, 2JZ-GE'' engine found in the Toyota_Crown (S150), JZS155 Toyota Crown and Toyota_Crown_Majesta (S150), Crown Majesta. The VVT-i system replaces the Toyota VVT system first introduced in 1991 with the five-valve per cylinder ''Toyota A engine#4A-GE (20-valve), 4A-GE'' engine found in the Toyota Corolla Levin#AE100/101 Series (1991–1995), AE101 Corolla Levin and Toyota Sprinter Trueno#AE100/101 Series (1991–1995), Sprinter Trueno. Lotus Exige
The Lotus Exige is a British two-door, two-seat sports car made by Lotus Cars since 2000. Originally a more-hardcore coupé version of the Lotus Elise roadster, since the Series 3 the Exige has been the larger-engined model of the family - using a V6 engine in place of the Elise's Straight-four engine, straight-four with convertible versions of both available. Series 1 The original Exige was launched in 2000 with a naturally aspirated 1.8 L Rover K engine, Rover K Series I4 engine, Inline-four engine in VHPD (Very High Performance Derivative) tune. Toyota ZZ Engine
The Toyota ZZ engine family is a straight-4 piston engine series. The ZZ series uses a die-cast aluminium engine block with thin press-fit cast iron cylinder liners, and aluminium DOHC 4-valve cylinder heads. The camshafts are chain-driven. The two 1.8 L members of the family, the 1ZZ and 2ZZ, use different bore and stroke. The former was optimised for economy, with torque emphasised in lower revolutions per minute operating range, while the latter is a "square" design optimised for high-RPM torque, yielding higher peak power. In internal combustion engines, variable valve timing (VVT) is the process of altering the timing of a valve lift event, and is often used to improve performance, fuel economy or emissions. It is increasingly being used in combination with variable valve lift systems. There are many ways in which this can be achieved, ranging from mechanical devices to electro-hydraulic and camless systems. Increasingly strict emissions regulations are causing many automotive manufacturers to use VVT systems. Two-stroke engines use a power valve system to get similar results to VVT. Pontiac Vibe
The Pontiac Vibe is a compact car that was sold by Pontiac from 2002 to 2010. It was jointly developed by General Motors along with Toyota, who manufactures the mechanically similar Toyota Matrix. Manufactured by the Toyota-GM joint venture NUMMI in Fremont, California, the Vibe succeeded the Chevrolet Prizm in production at NUMMI and like the Prizm, it was derived from the Toyota Corolla, making it the last of the GM and Toyota developed S-body cars. From 2002 to 2004, a rebadged right-hand drive variant of the Vibe was exported as the Toyota Voltz to the Japanese domestic market. The Voltz was not popular in Japan and was discontinued after two model years.
