Commune-level town (), a type of third tier subdivision of Vietnam is divided into 11,162 units along with Ward (Vietnam), ward and Commune (Vietnam), commune have equal status. The Vietnamese government often groups the various provinces and municipalities into three regions: Northern Vietnam, Central Vietnam, and Southern Vietnam. Red River Delta
The Red River Delta or Hong River Delta () is the flat low-lying plain formed by the Red River and its distributaries merging with the Thái Bình River in Northern Vietnam. ''Hồng'' (紅) is a Sino-Vietnamese word for "red" or "crimson". The delta has the smallest area but highest population and population density of all regions. The region, measuring some is well protected by a network of dikes. It is an agriculturally rich and densely populated area. Most of the land is devoted to rice cultivation. Eight provinces, together with two municipalities (the capital Hanoi, and the port of Haiphong) form the delta. It had a population of almost 23 million in 2019. Vietnam is divided into 34 first-level subdivisions, comprising 28 provinces () and six municipalities under the command of the central government (). Thái Bình Province
Thái Bình was a former coastal eastern Provinces of Vietnam, province in the Red River Delta region of northern Vietnam. Its name is chữ Hán (太平) for "great peace." It is about 18 km from Nam Định, 70 km from Haiphong, and 110 km from Hanoi. As of 2022, it had a population 1,878,540. On June 12, 2025 the decision was made to subsume Thái Bình into Hưng Yên. Vũ ( 武) or Võ is a common Vietnamese surname that, through genealogy records, has been present in Vietnam since the 9th century. The Vũ surname originates from general Wǔ Hún (武浑) of the Tang Dynasty in Imperial China who was appointed governor of the Annan Protectorate (Northern Vietnam). Trần Anh Kim
Trần Anh Kim (born 15 August 1949) is a Vietnamese democracy activist and former lieutenant colonel in the People's Army of Vietnam. In 2006, he rose to prominence as a pro-democracy activist associated with Bloc 8406. Kim has been charged twice with attempting to overthrow the Vietnamese government, and since 2016 has been serving a 13 year prison sentence. He has been recognised as a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International. Personal life Kim was born on 15 August 1949 in Vũ Thư, Thái Bình province, in what was then North Vietnam. Until his imprisonment in 2016, Kim lived in Thái Bình with his wife, Nguyễn Thị Thợm. Military career Kim served in the People's Army of Vietnam for over thirty years.
