American Cup (gymnastics)
The American Cup was an elite senior level international gymnastics competition that had been held in the United States from 1976 to 2020. It was usually held in February or March of each year. In 2011, it became part of the International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG) Artistic Gymnastics World Cup series. With the exception of 2005 (when the competition was also part of the FIG World Cup series), it has been exclusively an all-around competition. World Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The Artistic Gymnastics World Championships are the world championships for artistic gymnastics governed by the International Gymnastics Federation, Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). The first edition of the championships was held in 1903, exclusively for male gymnasts. Since the tenth edition of the tournament, in 1934, women's events are held together with men's events. The FIG was founded in 1881 and was originally entitled FEG (Fédération Européenne de Gymnastique), but changed its name in 1921, becoming the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG); this name change roughly correlates with the actual naming of the World Championships. 1977 European Women's Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The 11th European Women's Artistic Gymnastics Championships were held in Prague. Romanian Withdrawal The Romanian team walked out the competition during the beam finals. According to the Romanian federation, this decision was taken "as a result of some technical deficiencies and of some methods appeared in the referees' actions which altered the results". Ironically, the Romanian withdrawal happened right after Nadia Comăneci's performance, for which she received a perfect 10. If she had not left the building, she would have won the gold medal in the beam finals.
