Vírgenes Del Sol
Jorge Bravo de Rueda (September 13, 1895 – November 22, 1940) was a Peruvian pianist and composer. He was born in Chancay, Peru. Inspired by the huaynos of Andean music, he composed the internationally popular tune for guitar and pan flutes "Vírgenes del Sol" (sometimes erroneously "Virgines del Sol", meaning: Virgins of the Sun): possibly the second best-known Peruvian song worldwide after "El Cóndor Pasa", it was covered by dozens of interpreters, among others Yma Súmac, Los Calchakis, and Los Chacos. , the Congress of Peru has a project for a "Universidad Nacional Jorge Bravo de Rueda Querol" named in his honor. Rímac District
Rímac (pronunciation: ), known until the 19th century as the neighbourhood of San Lázaro, is a district in the Lima Province, Peru. It lies directly to the north of downtown Lima, to which it is connected by six bridges over the Rímac River. The district also borders the Independencia, San Martín de Porres, and San Juan de Lurigancho districts. Chancay
Chancay is a small city located north of Lima. Its population is 63,378. The Chancay culture was a pre-Columbian archaeological culture, later part of the Inca Empire. The small city is the site of the Chancay Mega-port, a deep water port built by China as part of its Belt and Road Initiative. The port began operations in November 2024, speeding shipment of resources from Peru to China. History The town and its associated valley lend their name to the historic Chancay culture which covered an area centered mostly in the Chancay and Chillón valleys. The modern settlement was founded in 1562 under the name of Villa de Arnedo. The main activity in Chancay these days is as a tourist resort for nearby Lima.
